Velseir's Pov:
We were all comfortable and relaxed in the living room after a nice meal. The food was great, it reminded me of steak and potatoes. I don't remember the last time I'd eaten something that good and the drink he gave us was absolutely deliciou. it tasted like peaches and mangos although red didn't like it. I was distracted staring at Amber's long black braid and admiring all the intricate beads that adorned it and the smaller braids. they appeared to be made out of several different types of materials. The fanciest ones were made from silver coloured metal, and looked to be of small warriors doing various honorable acts. It was mesmerizing.
bang!
I was disrupted from my trance as a deafening sound came from the entryway. I jumped up and towards the newly constructed nest in the office followed then overtaken by Red. I made it a point to close the office door before joining red in our protective sanctum. We hid in cautious silence holding each other close. There were two voices talking outside the room, one I recognised as Amber's the other I did not. The only other aliens I've met have either been scary or weird. this time i assumed it was the previous. No one safe makes such loud and startling sounds, at least not the kind I want to associate with.
The office door was opened slowly and with care, two sets of footsteps crept into the room. A shadow was cast on the entrance curtain and Amber called my name. His gurgled voice was calm and gentle. He was talking to me and although I didn't know the language I understood what he meant. I stuck my hand out of the den trying to find his. It made contact and I peeked out to make sure it was him. Once I was certain I made my way out and to him. I clung to his leg with a death grip in an attempt to shield myself from the new one in the room. The new one was shorter than Amber but still dwarfed me as it stared at me with its vibrant purple eyes. I made sure to keep Amber in front of me and Red behind me, he'd followed me out when I left the den.
The two were still conversing although they were speaking softly, probably an attempt at keeping us from darting off again. The new alien bent down to my eye level a few paces away but my mind was still running on defence or attack mode. I knew in my rational mind that this alien was probably Amber's friend and an owner of one of the rooms upstairs. It's just how they entered the house because due to that loud bang past memories resurfaced and with them my new wilder instincts were running rampant in response to the trauma. I just couldn't bring myself to calm down.
Once again I had been lost in thought, distracted while wrestling with the two sides of my mind. I was brought out of it when I looked up long enough to realise Amber was no longer acting as a personal shield against the new threat. something in me snapped and i bolted caged or not i was acting like a wild animal one that was scared and one that was willing to fight to live. my rational mind was tossed aside watching from the back what was unfolding as the primal animal in me took the reins.
My body was crouched down on all fours with those lethal looking fangs on full display, the venom they secreted dripped as I snarled at anything that got too close. The purple one tried approaching me, probably trying to calm me down but I didn't feel safe. Snapping at its hand to get it to back off seemed to work. Amber also tried to calm me down but I was confused and scared.
"Why was this happening? What is going on? I can't see clearly anymore..."
my vision clouded over and faded through a gradient to black. The last thing I remember was hearing my alien name being called right before my body gave out and collided with the cold hard floor.
Katorn's pov:
I feel like a failure. I should have left them alone and let them come meet her in their own time. I rushed it and now velseir is paying the price. Kesey had stayed back after velseir lashed out and I should have taken the hint and not approached him.
Thinking about how things would have played out had we done something differently is pointless in helping the unconscious being burning up in my arms. I cradled velseir's limp body trying to figure out what to do, his breathing was laboured and his skin was like the sun. This surely couldn't be healthy regardless of the species.
Avranga was on the coms while I was panicking, she had contacted Irogana. I don't know what was said as I was too busy fussing over my sick little friend. The trip to Irogana's research facility was a tense blur.
I wanted them to settle in and feel safe but my selfish actions have led to velseir being in this sorry state.
We arrived at the facility and Irogana was there to meet us her skin was glistening in a translucent way with worry.
After being rushed inside we reached the lab. Velseir was taken hurriedly from my grasp and shuttled off the the exam room. The door was locked behind them and I was stuck outside with Avranga and Kesey.
No! The urge the bare my teeth and break down the door was overwhelming but I managed to calm myself just enough not to.
I hope he's all right. Was it just stress and him being overwhelmed or was it something else I had failed to account for.
