2016 // New OrleansThe young couple left the subway station.
"Okay… this timeline looks safe enough," the young man mumbled and looked around.
"Are you sure?", his spouse wanted to know, holding their daughter in their arms.
Max looked around one more time to make sure and then nodded.
"I'm sure," assured the black-haired young man, smiling first at his spouse and then at his daughter, who was sleeping peacefully.
Max and Alex started moving and walked along the streets. They didn't know the time, but since it was already dark, the couple assumed it must be late– or very early, as the case may be here.
"No one is trying to attack us," Max continued, stepping in front of his better half and taking a few steps backwards. "No dangerous creatures to be seen. Just peace and quiet–"
"– and three strange looking people at the end of the street staring at us," Alex finished the sentence.
They looked past Max and pointed to the three strange people.
He stopped abruptly, so abruptly that Alex almost ran into him.
There were two people wearing scary masks and there was a woman standing between the two.
"They don't look very friendly," Alex whispered.
"No, they don't," replied Max.
They waited a moment to see if the others were moving towards them, but the woman and the other two didn't move.
"Run," Max murmured all of a sudden.
"What?"
"Run. Now."
Without hesitation, Alex turned around and ran in the other direction, Max close behind the two of them.
"Very safe this timeline, thank you, Sweetie," Alex complained as they turned into a small alley.
"Oh, I'm sorry, Love. I forgot I can see the future," replied Max.
But they didn't know their way around there. The couple didn't even know which city they were in.
So they ran around aimlessly, hoping to shake off the three strange people.
But that didn't work out as planned and the little family ended up in an small ally wihout a secound way out.
"Shit," Alex hissed.
"Quick, hide," said Max.
He carefully pushed Alex towards the large dumpsters so they could hide behind them.
"I love you both," he assured one last time and pushed the dumpster in front of his family.
Footsteps echoed down the alley. Alex instinctively took a step back and their back hit the cold stone wall.
"Honestly, this is a bit too easy. It's kind of... boring," said a woman's voice.
"Who are you?" Max wanted to know.
"A friend, well, not really, I'm just someone."
"Okay... what do you want?"
"I want you to know, that this is very personal–"
Alex covered heir mouth and slid down the wall when the unmistakable sound of a gunshot rang out and someone fell to the floor.
They held their daughter closer to them, praying to however was listening that at least she would make it out alive.
