Lady Nagant hovered in the air, her expression sharp as her rifle aimed down at me. The rooftop felt colder under the shadow of her towering figure, her purple hair flowing like a storm cloud.
"So, air walk, huh? Makes sense why All For One wanted you," I remarked, hands casually tucked into my pockets. My blindfold hid the amused glint in my eyes, but my grin was evident.
“You’re far too calm for someone in my crosshairs,” she said, her voice carrying both confidence and a lingering sadness. “You think that Infinity of yours will save you forever?”
She fired without waiting for an answer, her bullet zipping through the night air with a sharp crack. It moved with impossible speed, but it stopped mid-air, inches from my face, halted by my Infinity.
I tilted my head slightly, inspecting the floating bullet before it fell harmlessly to the ground. “Forever’s a long time,” I said with a smirk. “But yeah, probably.”
Lady Nagant didn’t flinch. She simply reloaded, her rifle transforming as another shot fired, then another. Rapid succession. Each bullet curved, twisted, aimed at impossible angles. None of them touched me.
“Gambare, Gambare~” I teased, stepping forward nonchalantly.
She growled under her breath, adjusting her aim. Suddenly, her rifle shifted again—this time, it fired multiple shots at once, like a rain of bullets descending upon me.
I sighed, raising a hand. The bullets froze mid-air before dropping like hailstones. “You’ve got style, I’ll give you that,” I said. “But if this is all you’ve got—”
Before I could finish, she vanished, reappearing a second later directly behind me.
“Not bad,” I muttered as I ducked under a spinning kick. She was faster now, her air walk allowing her to move unpredictably.
“Stop playing with me!” she snapped, her rifle morphing into a blade as she lunged forward.
This time, I didn’t activate Infinity. Instead, I sidestepped her swing, letting the blade whistle past my jacket. She twirled mid-air, slashing again, but I caught her blade between my fingers.
“That’s new,” I said, glancing at her surprised expression. “Didn’t expect you to get this close.”
She pulled back, firing another bullet point-blank. I tilted my head lazily, the bullet missing by a hair.
“You really think you can save me, don’t you?” she asked, her voice laced with bitterness.
“It’s not about saving you,” I replied, stepping closer. “It’s about reminding you who you are. You were a hero once, Nagant. You don’t belong in the shadows.”
Her hand trembled as she aimed again, but the shot never came. I could see the conflict in her eyes, the hesitation in her grip.
“You don’t understand,” she said, her voice cracking slightly. “Being a hero means dirtying your hands. Sacrifices. I’ve done things… I can’t come back from.”
“Maybe,” I said softly. “But heroes don’t stand alone. You’ve got people who still believe in you. I’m one of them.”
She stared at me, her rifle lowering slightly. The tension between us was palpable, but before either of us could say more.
"I was tired, you know" Lady Nagant says through some radio, "I killed so many" she says as she shoot and I dodgedthe bullet effortlessly. "in order to maintain this sham society" she says as she lets off more bullets, and I managing to dodge "there was a group plotting terrorism against heroes. Working with a villain organisation, the hero team received fame and money. People who could possibly shake the foundation of society all disappeared along with their sins without being judged by the law. It was all by secret order of the safety commission. There were once self defence groups-- vigilantes who were seen as heroes and earned public trust as heroes. The country guaranteed their activities. But in the end, the foundation of superhuman society is trust in heroes. I was a cog in the machine to maintain trust. A public face and a secret face. You need both to keep going. I obeyed. And obeyed... and obeyed... that fragility made me dizzy".
