Jisoo and Seokmin exchanged a quick glance, silently agreeing that it was time to make their escape. The room had descended into what could only be described as organized chaos—though "organized" might have been giving Soonyoung too much credit. He stood in the middle of the room, weaving an absurdly detailed ghost story about a “shadow fox,” complete with wild hand gestures and dramatic pauses that had the kids hanging on his every word.
Sunoo was clutching the edge of his blanket like it was his lifeline, his wide eyes fixed on Soonyoung. Dino, on the other hand, had taken charge of fortifying their pillow fort, yelling orders to no one in particular as he shoved an extra blanket into the structure. Seungkwan was holding Vernon’s forefinger for emotional support. Soobin sat contentedly in Jeonghan’s lap, babbling nonsense that Jeonghan translated into orders for the others—though his real purpose seemed to be keeping the youngest from getting trampled in the madness.
Jisoo and Seokmin, inching toward the door, exchanged another look. Soonyoung, mid-gesture, caught the movement out of the corner of his eye. Without missing a beat in his ghost story, he gave them a subtle nod—like a seasoned operative signaling the coast was clear.
Jisoo raised an eyebrow as he whispered, “Is it weird that he’s scarily good at this?”
“Let’s not question it, when my brother is his husband.” Seokmin murmured back, already halfway out the door.
They tiptoed past Jeonghan, who was perched on a cushion, guiding Soobin’s tiny hands to place a stuffed rabbit at the fort’s “entrance.” Jeonghan’s sharp eyes immediately spotted the sneaky couple. His lips twitched, but he said nothing, too distracted by Soobin’s squeal of triumph when the rabbit was declared the “guardian of the fort.”
Once in the hallway, Jisoo let out a long sigh, leaning against the wall. The muffled sounds of Soonyoung’s overly dramatic ghost story and the kids’ giggles filtered through the door, but the air outside felt wonderfully peaceful by comparison.
“Finally,” Jisoo said, rubbing his temples. “I thought we’d never get out of there.”
Seokmin laughed, draping an arm over Jisoo’s shoulder. “You’ve got to give it to Soonyoung. He’s a natural. Who else could handle that level of chaos and keep them entertained?”
“I don’t even want to think about it,” Jisoo groaned, straightening up. “Jeonghan was this close to making me babysit Soobin for the entire week. Can you imagine?”
Seokmin smirked, his eyes glinting with mischief. “I don’t know. You were kind of cute with him.”
Jisoo shot him a mock glare but couldn’t stop the small smile creeping onto his face. “Let’s not get any ideas, husband. Tonight is for us, and I am not sharing you with anyone under the age of 25.”
“Deal,” Seokmin replied, laughing as he led Jisoo toward the other suite.
Back in the room, Soonyoung was still in his element. With the ghost story wrapped up, he had seamlessly transitioned into leading the kids in an impromptu dance-off.
“All right, troops!” he shouted, clapping his hands and spinning on the spot. “It’s time for the shadow fox shuffle! Everyone, on your feet!”
Dino jumped up instantly, already flailing his arms in what could generously be called “dancing.” Sunoo hesitated for a moment before joining in, his blanket still wrapped around his shoulders like a superhero cape. Whereas Seungkwan was urging Vernon to show his robot dance. Even Soobin, from his cozy spot in Jeonghan’s lap, kicked his legs enthusiastically in rhythm with the music Soonyoung was now humming.
