Lauren

"Okay Marissa, listen to me. You have to go home, pack up your things, and go stay in a hotel." I lean in and whisper urgently.
"What are you talking about?" She laughs nervously.
"Charlie is my ex boyfriend. He abused me blah blah blah long story. I really hate to break it to you this way, Rissa but you have to leave and go somewhere he can't find you. He's seriously deranged and you're not safe. I have a feeling he's just been using you to get close to me."
"Lauren, you're scaring me." She says, wide eyed.
"I'm scared now too. Come on, I'm gonna have Ashlyn cover for me and we're going to your house to pack up your things." I stand up and pull her by the hand before making an agreement with Ashlyn and rushing out of there.
We drive in silence to her apartment and I can tell she's really freaked out. I just know something isn't right. Charlie never stopped being obsessed with me. When I left him he practically had no soul. I don't know why he's choosing now to pop back into my life but he isn't wanted. I'm not going to let him hurt my best friend, no way in hell.
I hurry out of the car before rushing up to her apartment waiting impatiently for her to unlock the front door.
When she finally does, we burst inside and I order her to only get what she can't live without; few pairs of clothes along with all credit cards, her phone charger, everything she'd need to survive for a few days.
"Lauren, don't you think this is going a little overboard? What if he's changed and genuinely likes me?" She asked, shoving clothes in a bag on my demand.
I walk up to Marissa and hug her, shutting my eyes trying not to cry.
"Babe, I really hate to tell you this, but he's soulless. Please, believe me. You said he always leaves right after? Not even a friend with benefits does that. He got attached to you to get to me. I know Charlie and I know he'll stop at nothing to get his way. Why he waited almost 5 years, I have no clue but my gut is telling me that you're not safe. You have to go into hiding." I sniff not wanting to bawl at all the memories rushing back.
"Okay," she sighs, "I believe you."
I wait for her to finish packing up her things before going with her to a hotel far enough to fit my standards. She checks in with cash and I follow her to her room.
"I know I sound like your mother right now but lock your door, the windows, don't use your credit cards, or anything that will enable him to track you. You have to promise me. Next to Alex, you're all I have so please please do as I say. It's the only way to keep you safe." I pull her into another bone crushing hug and this time I can't hold back the tears.
She plays with my hair and hugs me back.
"Why are you so scared of this guy, babe? He seems like a perfectly good person to me." She whispers trying not to upset me more.
"I just want him gone. I thought he was out of my life years ago but now he's coming back and I just don't understand. What did I do to deserve the hell he put me through?" I sob, getting tear stains on her blue t shirt.
"Shh.." She soothes. "It'll all be okay. I'll drive you back to your apartment and then come right back here. I promise."
We drive with the radio softly in the background while I look out the window trying not to cry anymore.
When we get to my apartment I hug her once more and tell her I love her before getting out and watching her drive away.
I trudge up the metal staircase to my apartment before ungracefully unlocking the door, meaning I dropped my keys twice and cursed under my breath already done with today.
