Alex

August 18, 2015; Morning

Hey babe. Mind if I stop by the café later? I've been missing you.

She replies almost instantly.

Of course. I've been missing you too. With little kisses and hearts. She's the cutest.

I can't get over how lucky I am to have her. How I do; I honestly don't know but I wouldn't change a thing. I normally wouldn't go for girls with wild colored hair like hers but something about her just drew me in the first time I saw her. She was honestly a mess and looked like she wanted nothing more than to go home. I had to be an asshole and go in right before they closed.

I was going to end up chickening out and just taking my coffee but the way she looked at me..I knew I had to make her look at me like that for the rest of my life.

I walk over to my old wooden table and place down my bowl of cereal causing the leg to snap. Yeah, I really do need a new table but there's no time for that right now.

I walk over to the drawer where I keep the things like tape, scissors, and pencils and find that I'm out of duct tape. To the hardware store it is then.

I manage to sneak in while the old guy is talking to a customer. The man can seriously talk your ear off and I'm in a hurry. I have to get to Walmart to get rose petals and candles for tonight.

I stroll through the aisles looking for the duct tape I need.

Hello Kitty?

No.

One Direction?

Hell no.

What the hell? Where is the regular silver duct tape?

I finally spot the last roll and start heading out of the aisle when some guy almost runs into me. He's about two inches taller with blue eyes and curly black hair. Not bad looking and he seems like an okay guy.

"Oh," I say, putting my hands up, "sorry man."

"Nah bro, it's all good." He tells me, patting my shoulder.

"Cool." I reply. "See you around."

"Yeah, see you."

I go up to the register and hand the duct tape to Herman; the old guy.

"Hey, Alex." He winks. "Plans for the little lady tonight?" He asks, holding up the tape suggestively.

I chuckle and shake my head. "Well yeah, I've got plans but not with that."

"Too bad." He laughs, handing me back the duct tape after I gave him the money in exact change; I always have exact change.

I wave and walk out of the musty old store.

Lauren

Valentine's Day, 2010; 18 yrs old

I checked myself in the mirror of my vanity one last time; primping my hair and pouting my lips making sure every part of me looked stunning. It was my first Valentine's Day with a boy and it had to be perfect; I had to be perfect.

"Lauren!" My mom called from downstairs. "Charlie's here!"

"Coming!" I yelled back down. I grabbed my small black purse and did one last mirror check, making sure my classic little black dress along with my hair and makeup didn't change in that last 30 seconds.
