This was originally based on an old dream I had and was supposed to have a hint of Pazura. However, I just plagiarised myself by taking a chapter from an original story I'm drafting and editing it to make this. If Patrick has she/her pronouns in this story then forgive me because the original character used in his place was a woman. I can't rhyme so Azura's song later in the story doesn't flow well. Whoops.
First, we have Fairy Hilda and Mermaid Azura. Who's next?
Patrick was too distraught to notice his shoes suddenly becoming wet. The waves continued to crash against the sandy shore, further drenching Patrick's shoes. That wasn't the only thing on Patrick that was wet. His face was a mess, eyes wide, tears falling, teeth clenched, lips trembling.
"Sire! You have to get back inside!" a voice yelled. Patrick flinched but didn't bother moving. He was paralysed with shock, frozen in time because of something that had happened so long ago it seemed. Patrick didn't react as he felt a firm grip on the back of his shoulders. Slowly but surely, someone was pulling him away from the shore. Away from the place where Azura was taken from him.

"Sire, she's gone. You have to accept that."
Patrick let the voice fade completely before he answered. After everything that had happened in this damn war, Patrick was not about to accept that the love of his life had drowned in the sea.
"She is not gone. She is just captured. We must rescue her at once. Send the troo-"
"Sire! Azura is gone. Lady Azura is gone. It is too late for us to do anything."
Patrick started at his shieldmaiden in disbelief. As if she would be acting like this if the Occult Doctor was gone! She would have gone to the ends of the Overworld and the Celestials just to rescue them! Why couldn't Hilda understand that Patrick would do the same for Azura?
Hilda placed a hand on Patrick's shoulder. "I'm sorry, sire, but there truly is nothing me, you, or anyone at the Frostbourne can do to save her. It's too dangerous given the nature of the sea creatures lurking in those waters. It would be a mission straight to our deaths."
Patrick knew Hilda was trying to knock sense into him. Could he truly live to accept that Azura was well and truly gone? After the war, he was supposed to plan his future with her! Marry her, settle down, start a family...
When Patrick didn't respond, Hilda cleared her throat. "Even if there was a chance Azura didn't drown, the sea creatures in those waters would have gotten to her. If you were to try and rescue her, you would be whisked away to faraway places or meet certain death."
Their eyes met. One pair was distressed and full of sorrow. The other was taut yet concerned. Nobody looked away from the other's gaze. It was all too much for both of them.
"How do you know? How much do you know about them?" Patrick finally asked, breaking the silence between them.
Hilda was silent as she looked away, rubbing her arm. "I know enough to tell you that you need to accept the worse, sire. She's gone, whether you like it or not. Nothing can change that. Even if she is alive, the Azura you truly knew is gone."
The silence continued for a while because Patrick didn't know what to say. It soon became unbearable, every little sound becoming as loud as thunder.
"You are dismissed, Hilda," Patrick finally spoke, standing up from his chair.
Hilda's response was delayed, slowly turning to look at Patrick before nodding. She slowly walked to the door of his office, her hand twisting the door knob.
"I'm sorry for your loss, sire. Azura will never be forgotten."
Somehow, that hurt more than being punched by Herorbine.
