"What about Calum?" I asked nervously. I spoke with caution, I wasn't sure I would like what I was about to hear.
But I didn't hear anything.
Ashton's moblie phone went off and he whipped it out and took the call. He put his pointer finger up to me and excused himself. He went outside to the back garden and shut the sliding door behind him. I watched him walk to the end of the garden by the fence, and I kept my eyes on him as he paced around.
He was raising his voice, I could tell that much. His voice was being raised and I could hear the murmur of the sound waves come through the door. I couldn't make any of it out though, it was much like a conversation in the distance.
He looked pretty angry though. Wait, no. Angry isn't the word. Stressed out.
His hair wasn't in the bun that it was in last night. His hair was flowing by his shoulders and he was tugging at the roots. His paces became stomps and I could see the paving stones slightly shake with each step. He scratched his stubble that was on his neck with rage, his nostrils flaring.
I went to the window and slowly opened it, and the sound was still minimal but this time it was audible. I hopped on the counter and concentrated.
"She deserves to know, Cal."
There was barely even a pause. "Yeah, well we're talking about Luke being in a serious relationship now. Not you fucking around and then having dire consequences."
Then Ashton stopped in his tracks. "You can't. And you know bloody well why. She's not a piece of meat. Fucking respect that."
I had a feeling that I had nothing to do with this conversation anymore. I had major déjà vu from when I did this to Luke, Ben and Jack a long time ago.
I frowned and hopped off of the counter, and walked into the living room. I sat in the armchair and leant forwards. What was going on? What did Calum do?
My only conclusion was that, Calum had fallen in love with this Zoe girl. That was the only reason I could come up with.
If that was true, then I could kind of see why he would want to block me out too. I reminded him too much of Luke, and Luke had what he wanted.
I always get told how similar I am to Luke, in both appearance and personality. Apparently according to Michael, I got more and more like him every day. I don't see the resemblance that he always goes on about though. Like yeah we both have pretty broad shoulders, and a big toothy smile that could be as long as the Great Wall of China. We have similar hair colours yes, apart from my hair is more light brown with blonde highlights. He has long and slim legs though, whereas mine are more short and curvy.
Our personalities are pretty similar I guess, but that's just from where we love the same music. We will always have lyric conversations and have private jokes that no one will understand. Even if someone else is having a conversation and it would link into our special language, we will make eye contact and pull some random move or gesture that no one will understand. But that's just us being us. Michael says its deeper though. Like when we're upset, we have the same tendencies. Or when we're happy, we both giggle and grin and pull our hands to our face and cover our mouths like silly school girls. And apparently when we laugh we both throw our heads back and bark with laughter, and when we smile, at first we always try and suppress it, making it look like a smirk.
I pondered over these thoughts, trying my best to match conclusions to what's happening with Cal. How can this be over some girl?
Ashton came in and sat on the sofa across the room, laying down with his entire body taking up the sofa.
He smiled at me weakly.
I wasted no time, I was eager and desperate to get an answer.
"Ashton, what's Cal got to do with this?" I begged.
His smile faded immediately. "I just spoke to him, and I think it's best if he tells you."
I frowned. "Ashton, he won't bloody speak to me, how the hell am I going to get him to explain."
"That's what I just spoke to him about, and he agreed that he will tell you in his own time."
"I need to know now." I complained like a child. I wanted to throw a tantrum like a child, but I remembered my age and the maturity that I had to show. "Ashton, I've been through hell the past few days. Don't you think he owes me at least an apology?" I asked him, a small pout on my face.
Ashton frowned and looked guilty. "Kayla, he owes you the biggest apology. And you will get it. But this is a pretty big deal, and it's not the nicest of situations either." He said mysteriously.
I sighed sadly. "No, I can tell that from this end of the world." I scoffed. "What happened? Did he fall in love with this Zoe?" I asked pitifully.
"It's not that simple, Cal has a lot of explaining to do."
