for people who have missed out on day three (it is posted as chapter 13).
XXI | day four - fire and smoke
On the fourth day, Vihaan Singh Chauhan forgot all about Meera Rai.
He left her shady premises by 4pm the previous day and barfed the food out by the time he reached his office. By seven, Vihaan vowed to never think about that woman or anything about her but couldn't quite ignore the growing pang in his chest. By midnight, Vihaan was swamped by his work - so much that he decided it best to spend the night at his firm than go back home. And by next morning, Vihaan was back to being his old, gruesome self again.
The one who wouldn't strip off his dignity to woo a woman.
He didn't want to lose his sanity over a woman again. Especially not a divorcee, poor and helplessly pathetic woman.
Meera Rai.
He had researched a lot about her in the past few days. She was a headstrong, no-nonsense and what feminist called, a brave woman who fought through her divorce and came out strong. He almost hired a private investigator to find more about her but refrained when he realised that he didn't want to marry her anyway.
He simply wanted to fuck her. So why waste money on someone like her?
Most women would have been swayed by his looks, his money, or if it comes to that, his chivalrous ways. But Meera Rai was really making him work harder for a crumb of her attention. He had to throw away his pride to act cute around her, flush crores of money, and his time that he would have utilised earning more than the likes of Meera Rai would ever see in her lifetime. He was appalled at her saintly attitude, like she wasn't discarded by society.
What did she have to be so smug and proud about?
A miserable life to her name with a sorry excuse of a job.
Women in general irked Vihaan, but women trying to be on par with men - that always amused him. Why run the race when you know you are going to lose?
"Sorry for interrupting, Mr. Arora is here."
Vihaan didn't bother looking up from his blueprints. He had a ton of backlog to clear thanks to Meera and her unwavering stance towards him. But after the previous evening, Vihaan was surely not going to waste any of his time for that woman. Or any woman for that matter.
They were not worth it.
"Are you down for the evening party?" Shaurya barged in, cheekily waving a goodbye to Vihaan's off-limits secretary. "The Singhanias and the Wadias are getting their kids wedded off. It's sort of like an announcement party-"
Shaurya helped himself with a glass of whiskey, and poured one for Vihaan. "I don't do weddings."
"It's not one. It's just an announcement party..."
"That too."
Shaurya clinked his glass with Vihaan and grinned at his partner. "Wadias are our biggest investors, and not to forget, Singhania's neary saved our ass from drowning over the last political fuck-up." Vihaan simply stared at Shaurya with little to no reaction. "So, drink this glass, grab your coat and let's leave."
"It's noon."
"It's an evening party."
Vihaan took a sip of his whiskey. "You are only happy because you get to fuck more girls and I have to sit around and engage in conversations on your behalf."
"Our behalf!" Shaurya corrected Vihaan, a smug smile countering Vihaan's frown. "And, I never stopped you from sleeping around - it's not my fault you don't like women under you." He winked at Vihaan, "or over you - however you like it."
