Freen? Freen Chankimha is your client? Not Lorraine?" I asked the astonished lawyer in front of me in confusion.
"Yes, Miss Armstrong. Why?"
"But..." I stopped, stunned.
"Attorney, does it mean f-freen was the one who helped me with my debt? H-how about my father's company?"
Mr. Ramirez smiled. "I think it's better if you'll talk to her friend, Miss Charlie , Miss Armstrong. Since my client's not here today."
For the second time, I was stunned. Friend? Did I hear it right?
"W-where's Miss Charlie, Mr. Ramirez?"
"Oh, I just came from Miss Freen's office. She's there. Anyways, I have to go now, Miss Armstrong."
I nodded when he said goodbye to me. I don't know, but I felt like I was walking without knowing which direction to go because of the information I had learned.
Is that why when I kissed Lori right in front of the lawyer to thank her, it was a bit of a surprise? Because she wasn't the one who helped me? Because they didn't really know each other and were together at that time?
Why did she lie? All along someone else helped me and not my ex-girlfriend? Goodness!
Minutes later, I realized that my feet were walking towards Freen's office where Miss Charlie was now.
I need to talk to her, because if I don't, my brain might explode from the many questions I have in my mind.
When I arrived in front of Freen's office, I immediately knocked. Even though I was nervous about what might be found out, I couldn't back down. I needed to know everything. Was freen really the one who helped me? Why? Why would she do that?
I looked up when I heard the door open and saw Miss Charlie's shocked face. Not knowing what to say, I hesitated to smile at her.
"Good morning, Miss de Leon." I greeted.
"What do you want? Freen is not here-"
"I wanted to talk to you." I cut her off.
She froze and stared at me intently. After a few moments, she sighed and opened the door slightly.
"Come in." She whispered and then quickly turned away.
I stepped inside and even before she said anything, I sat down on the couch opposite where she was sitting.
"What do you want, Miss Armstrong?" She asked seriously, meeting my gaze.
I cleared my throat and adjusted my seat.
"I just wanted to know, do you know who helped me to reduce the amount I had to pay to redeem the house and land? Do you know if...if your wife had anything to do with that? Because I just found out that Freen's lawyer came to the house to help me get the house and land back." I asked nervously.
She just stared at me and after a while, she chuckled amusely.
"Why are you asking me that, Miss Armstrong ? And if I know something, do you think I have the right to tell you? You said it was Freen's lawyer. So I'm not obligated to tell you any information."
My shoulders slumped and my mouth dropped open when I heard her answer. It seemed like I really couldn't get an answer from her . Why did I even think of asking her when she was already hot on my nerves?
I slowly stood up from the couch and cleared my throat again.
"I'm sorry, Miss de Leon. I was just hoping if you knew something and could answer my questions. I guess I need to go now."
