The afternoon sun bathed the park in a warm, golden light, casting long, lazy shadows across the soft green grass. Birds chirped from the branches above, their songs blending with the gentle rustling of leaves in the breeze. Beneath a tall oak tree, a woman sat on grass, her fingers moving with across the pages of her sketchbook. She had striking short blue hair, and her eyes golden.
Her focus was on the two children in front of her, their laughter and play filling the air with an infectious energy. The girl, Lumina, was a whirlwind of joy. Her golden hair shone in the sunlight, her eyes sparkling with excitement as she dashed from one game to another. Beside her, the boy, Lorien, with his dark blue hair and soft light blue eyes, shuffled along reluctantly, his slow movements betraying his preference for a quieter existence.
Lorien was, in many ways, his mother's mirror. His tendency to lounge about, eyes half-closed in contentment, had earned him a reputation for laziness. But it was his twin sister, Lumina, who kept him on his feet—literally and figuratively.
“Lorien, come on! Let’s play tag!” Lumina tugged at her brother’s sleeve, her eyes wide with an eager glow.
Lorien dragged his feet, looking more like he was being pulled into an ordeal than invited into play. “I don’t really feel like it,” he muttered, his voice soft, the words almost drowned by the noise of Lumina's enthusiasm.
But Lumina wasn’t one to take ‘no’ for an answer. “Oh, come on, just one game! It’ll be fun!”
Irene, chuckled from where she sat, glancing up from her sketchbook. She had been quietly observing the interaction. “Lumina, dear... don’t drag your brother around so much. Let him do his own thing.”
Lumina, pouting slightly, turned to her mother with a frown. “But I want to play with him! Don’t you like playing with me, Lorien?” Her voice was sweet, almost pleading, and her eyes sparkled.
Lorien sighed, his shoulders sagging under the weight of his sister’s expectations. But in the end, it was hard to resist her. With a resigned look in his eyes, he gave a small nod. “I like it...” His voice was quiet, reluctant.
“Yay! See, Mom? He also wants to play!” Lumina beamed, her face lighting up with triumph as she turned to their mother, eyes full of happiness.
Irene shook her head with a fond smile, her golden eyes shimmering with affection. “Just don’t go too far,” she cautioned, her tone gentle but firm.
Lumina, already bouncing on her feet, barely registered the warning. She grabbed Lorien’s hand, practically dragging him off toward the open field. “Come on, Lorien! I’ll race you to the big tree!”
Lorien, followed at a more leisurely pace, resigning himself to another one of his sister’s endless adventures.
As the two children ran off, Irene returned her focus to her sketchbook, her smile lingering. The sight of her twins, so full of life and energy, filled her with warmth.
As the evening sky darkened, Irene packed up their things, lifting each child gently into her arms. With the twins tucked close, she walked back to their villa. Inside, Lumina eagerly dashed to her favorite Nanny, an omega, who greeted her with a warm smile. Lorien followed, quieter but content. The Nanny bowed and took them to prepare for their bath.
After the bath and dinner, the twins snuggled up with Irene in bed, despite their own rooms. As Irene told them stories, Lumina’s voice broke the peaceful silence. “Mom, when will Daddy come back from his business trip?”
Irene gently patted her head. “It’ll be a few more weeks, sweetie.”
“I miss him,” Lumina murmured, her eyes drooping with the sadness of missing her father.
Children rarely got time with Keith, her husband. As a successful businessman, he was often away. “How about we visit Grandma’s house tomorrow?” Irene suggested. “Your cousins will be there too.”
Both twins’ faces lit up with joy, nodding enthusiastically.
Two days later, Irene took the children to her parents’ house. She had planned to stay, but an urgent work call forced her to return home alone. She promised to pick them up next week, her heart heavy as she drove away, leaving them in the warmth of their grandmother’s care.
