My heart raced a thousand miles per second. In his embrace minutes stretched longer than shadows at nightHis arms around me were so tight yet comforting. My thoughts fell quiet. Fear, worry, and anxiety were all gone. I felt small, unimportantly small, like I could make a mistake and it wouldn't bother anyone.
And it was nice.
It was safe.
I was safe."Akane you still with us?"
The man behind me removed his hand from my mouth as he called out for the other. His arm still was lingering around my waist.
"Yes yes, I'm here"
He replies with a strained undertone."Don't just grab me like that next time!"
I complain while breaking free from his embrace. A blush tinted my cheeks hidden by the darkness.
He chuckles
"Already thinking about a next time?"I stammer for a reply, taken off guard, and try to change the topic.
"What was that anyway?""Some kind of supernatural, if I had to guess, it's likely here to spot threats and alert whomever Hanako is being held hostage by."
Teru explains and I add.
"We'll have to stay stealthy then."
A neon green glow illuminates their faces faintly.
"Might be hard when you are glowing. Why are you glowing?"
Akane points at my hair and I brush through it with my hand. Intertwined with my hair were soft neon strands."Shit-"
Before even wondering why this was happening I reach for my hood to pull it over my head, only to grab onto nothing.I freeze, panic shattering through me. Curse this stupid maid outfit.
"Nothing ever can go smoothly with you can it?"
Teru sighs and pulls loose the bow of my apron on top of my skirt. To use it to cover my hair.
"Did that spider do that?"
Akane wonders as Teru tries to remove it from the top of my head but it skillfully dodges him.
"It's supposed to bring luck."
The Exorcist grumbles, staring down the little creature that was starting to piss him off.
"Luck, yeah right."
The other scoffs, while not so far away we could hear the dragging of a ladder again. The lamps started flickering once more, and in the time I saw Teru's eyes widen, I was already up in the air. I was snatched and thrown over somebody's shoulder. The person was running and they were fast.
The wind around me was ice cold, and I barely had the time to thrash around before we came to a harsh stop, and I was thrown onto the ground.
"Hey!"
I grunt and pick myself up. In front of me stood a ninja, its face hidden behind a kitsune mask.
It bowed to the person behind me before running back into the dark."I expect you have the money to free your friend?"
An old yet high-pitched voice asked, and I turned towards it. We were at the very end of this creepy library, a fairly well-lit place compared to the rest but without any windows.Olive green painted walls, messy shelves a desk with even more papers and books on it, it looked like a study.
But in the middle of all that was a very low table, one you would need to sit on the floor for. Hanako sat at that table, concentrated, a sweat pearl running down his cheek, in his hands Hanafuda cards.
Opposite him sat a Mokke on a round, dark magenta cushion. It had a long white beard, was larger than most, and very well-known, the elder Mokke.
Immediately, I'm on my knees kneeling, my head low, eyes steady on the floor. It was considered our leader, and though most saw it as our grandfather, we all respected it a lot.
Finally, it moved its eyes off the game.
"Rise, child, you shan't bow in front of me. Not you, not after all you have done for us."
I nod immediately obeying.
"I failed; I'm not worthy of your respect."
I say keeping my voice as cold as possible.
"You're blinder than me, your Highness,"
The mokke chuckles and then continues.
"Without you, I could have never pulled this boy to justice."
