I couldn't think of a better plan than going to school very early and waiting for him to arrive. I want to be the first one there. The first one to see him..his entrance being made through another door, might ruin my plan, but I decided I'd go for it anyway.
I wore another short skirt, with "Bitch Better Have My Money" written in black ink across a white tee and my usual black converse. I tied my hair in a high pony tail and put on some perfume that was so overused that it smelled like me. Praying to everything that I wouldn't alarm anyone awake, I applied some lip balm and carefully made my way down the stairs, but then I heard some voices in the kitchen.
"You never wake up this early, what's up?" Mum asks as she hands me a plate with two pancakes covered with some delicious caramel sauce and two chocolate pieces on the top.
"Nothing, I just couldn't sleep" I lie through a smile. It seems to have become easier and easier as I eased into this new and improved me. "Plus, I don't wanna wait for Evan. He always wakes up late and now, thanks to him, all my teachers hate me for being late all the time." I explain as I take a piece of the pancake and chew it. "I can't afford another detention mum. You know it's really him dragging me down?" A laugh rolls off her tongue as she nods, playing along with my little charade.
"Well, I hope you wake up early everyday. You don't know how tiring it is to wake you up." Mum groans jokingly as she takes a seat across from me and a sip of her coffee.
"I'll wake up early if you make me delicious pancakes everyday." I smile as I chew on the pancakes, the flavor filling up my senses. She scoffed, offering me an I-don't-think-so one back.
"So did you have fun last night?" Mum asks and I nod, gesturing for her to wait until I'm done chewing.
"Yeah, we even tried to make Harry sleep over but it didn't work." I shrug and take another piece of the pancake.
"Slow down, you're eating too fast." Mum teases me as she moves the plate a couple inches away from my fork.
"Heyy, I'm just hungry." I whine as I pull it back in front of me.
"I'm just kidding." She smirks as she stands up to wash her coffee mug."Yeah yeah, I know." I smile as I take the last piece of the pancake then stand up to take my bag and go.
"Have a nice day." I shout as I grab my bag and close the door behind me, ready for the long walk ahead.
I walk slowly, honestly though, I should've rested a little after eating those pancakes. I take out my phone and earbuds along with it. I plug them in and turn Bad Blood on repeat.
I've always loved walking in the morning. Even in the worst moods, something about how serene everything was in early hours calmed me down. But ever since Evan bought a car, he rarely let me walk to school. It's nice of him of course, but sometimes I just want to have some time to myself. And walking to school, breathing in the fresh morning breeze and looking at all the colour surrounding me always made me feel ready to phase whatever the day brought.
Stepping inside the school assures me that the building is practically deserted.
The hallways were all empty, leaving it up to me and a few nerds to make each other feel crowded. I walk around for a couple minutes, just to make sure he's not hiding somewhere beyond my sight. It feels crazy and I feel crazier.
I'm almost afraid Patricia or Harry would see me, but I have this indestructible thing in me that never let these kind of thoughts slow me down.
I start roaming through halls filled with classrooms, opening each door to assure myself each one is left empty.
