The interviewer leaned forwards, obviously eager to hear what the star of Devenford prep had to say.
"While tonight's game is a charity event, we hear Devenford Prep and Beacon Hills have a long-standing rivalry." The lady smiled bright.
The wound on my arm healed. A transformation barely noticeable, yet bear grave consequences.
Brett smug smile grew even bigger. "Devenford always plays to win, but especially when it's for charity."
"And especially when 100% of the proceeds go to the winning team, isn't that right?" The interviewer brought the mic closer to herself.
"Which is why we'll be 100% kicking Beacon Hills' ass!" Brett winked at the camera.
The lady continued to finish her segment.
"I am forever grateful to never have to say that." James leaned down.
His voice sent shiver down my spine. He spoke so lightly, even when he was grieving. Although, I killed his cousin. A secret that I could not bring myself to speak of.
Things are adding up. My dept is getting heavier and the bill will come due. I will pay, but who else will.
A hand creeped around my waist. Brett pressed his body against mine. He refused to be apart.
"Having fun?" James teased.
"Always." Brett winked.
Brett looked down at me. Still wearing the cheesy smile. Warmth radiated through my face. Everything happened so fast. Less than a day ago, we talked like strangers. Then...
The one thing in my life that was normal. Ordinary, it terrified me beyond comprehension and I had to stand here and smile. Praying he could not hear how fast my heart was beating.
The flirting between the boys died fast, as Theo slow step approach us. He stood few feet away. Just far enough to be awkward to acknowledge him.
Theo called me over. Brett tightened his grasp around me. I looked at him. His face full of emotion. He could burst any moment now. A wolf out werewolf is not what I need in the moment.
I walked towards Theo. He put his hand on my back and lead me to a more private place inside the school. We stood by some lockers. I have not been here during day time. At least not inside, never for a decent reason either.
"You disappear last night. You were supposed to come back to operating room," Theo said with a calm voice. Almost worried.
"Something went wrong." I quickly came up with an excuse.
"Something went wrong. Somehow Scott got to Lydia. Why do you think that?" He raised an eyebrow.
I was loss of words. It was a minefield. Except that the whole field was just one gigantic bomb waiting to be triggered.
