Aiden's POV
My heart didn't calm down even a bit. It was beating faster and faster with every passing second.
When I reached Haeun's mansion, I parked my car at the porch and hurriedly ran inside the mansion.
I ran upstairs to see Miss Suzy sitting on the floor, holding her forehead in the corridor. She wasn't fully conscious of her circumstances at all.
When I heard Haeun crying in her room, she sounded pathetic. So without wasting any more time, I ran towards her room.
Upon reaching her room, I first knocked down the first man I found near the doorway.
I twisted his neck before he could sense my presence, and he fell to the ground with a 'thud' sound.
When the other man, who was kneeling near the cupboard, turned back to see me, his eyes grew wider as soon as he saw me.
He knew he had messed with the wrong person.
'Aiden!!!' the man whispered as he stood up from the ground and pointed his gun at me.
As I looked at Haeun inside the cupboard, she wasn't crying anymore. Instead, she wrapped her up inside the cupboard.
'It is good to know you know me,' I said to the man with the gun.
'Aiden, I've got a gun,' he spoke.
His hands shook badly due to fear.
While I took this chance to grab the flower vase from the nearest cabinet to throw it towards the man's hand.
The vase hit the man's hand hard, and he dropped the gun on the floor. The vase fell too and shattered into pieces.
As I found myself knocking down this other man too on the floor, it was easy to take care of both of them without any hassle because they both were idiots.
You know what, it was always easy to turn down your opponent when they are fearful, especially when they are afraid of you.
Anyway, I sighed and looked at Haeun. She was still in the cupboard. I heard her sniff.
As I kneeled down to hear her, she was a mess. Her hair was all over her face, eyes swollen, and her cheeks soaked in tears. She was shivering.
'Haeun,' I whispered as I reached out for her hair and brushed it out of her face.
I wanted to see her face clearly when Haeun looked at me.
Finally, I said, 'Hey, come out of the cupboard. I'm sorry for being late, but now I'm here; no one can hurt you.'
All of a sudden, Haeun threw her body onto me as she hugged me tight. I somehow balanced us.
'Where were you? I was so scared,' her voice cracked.
'I'm sorry, Haeun.'
I caressed her hair gently as I slowly wrapped my arms around her.
'I was so scared.' 'Don't worry; now they're gone,' I consoled her as I felt her nod.
I didn't break the hug; she seemed to be comfortable in my embrace.
My heart had calmed down seeing Haeun safe, especially when she was in my embrace; everything seemed more than fine.
I knew she was safe with me.
But then I found Haeun's head had fallen asleep, and I could feel her total body weight on me. She was snoring cutely. I smiled.
Then I carefully picked her up in my arms and placed her on the bed gently.
She was sleeping peacefully. I looked at her closely. My breath was stuck in my throat; she looked mesmerizing.
Even though she looked a mess, she was beautiful.
'Aiden... you're my...,' she mumbled something in her sleep.
She looked cute. I chuckled. God, she made me smile.
When I took ear to her mouth to listen to her, 'you're my knight in the dark,' she whispered.
This time I heard her clearly. Her breath touched my face.
My feelings were stuck once again in my throat when someone knocked on Haeun's room door.
I turned back to see Jay, one of my men, standing at the door. I had called him on my way here.
I stood properly and covered Haeun with a blanket. I let her sleep.
As I walked up to Jay, 'take care of these bodies and Miss Suzy...'
'I've sent Miss Suzy to the hospital with Ken; he'll take care of her,' Jay spoke, cutting me off.
I really liked this attitude of Jay. He was always one step ahead.
'Boss, there is one more thing: Ahn is coming back to Seoul tomorrow, and we assume Leo will be there to pick him up from the airport,' Jay informed.
His information simply made me think hard.If that was going to happen the next day, we would be able to find out Leo's real identity.
'Okay, now we have to fight back; enough with defending ourselves. Get ready, Jay, to end this game,' I said.
As Jay bowed and left, I looked at Haeun, and I was determined to get rid of our enemies.
She needed to stop fearing her enemies and live her life without any fear, just as I needed to finish Ahn to stop all this death's game.
All these years I have ignored my heart completely, but I needed to listen to it and act accordingly.
The last few hours had made me realize that I have a heart too, and my heart needed Haeun.
