His mark

Bellatrix stood amongst the rumble and smoke, taking in all of her surroundings. Her chest tightened at the sight before her. What once was filled with tents and people from all over, chatting and partying in a joyous nature, meeting with long lost friends over the game now lay in ashes. She hadn't come across many corpses but the ones she had made her stomach turn. This couldn't possibly be happening, not again. The sky above lit up in green before displaying a skull with a snake slytherin through its open mouth. She went cold over as she recognised the mark. Now it hit home, that was the mark of Tom Riddle.
The witch felt numb as the realisation sunk in. He wasn't dead.

Falling to her knees on the spot, her knees buckling beneath her own dead weight. The soft neigh beside her, followed by a gentle nudge of the mares head didn't even break her trance like state. Memories came flooding back, haunted visions and screams closed her head and wouldn't stop. She clutched her hair, squeezing her eyes shut in a desperate attempt to stop the horrible thoughts plaguing her mind. She didn't hear the distant calls getting closer, nor noticed the stunning spells being thrown in her direction. Had it have not been for Midnight they'd have taken her down in seconds. The mare stood on her hind legs, pawing out as a warning for those who approached them. She'd blocked the spells from hitting Bellatrix, being unaffected by them herself, she spread their wings to their full length before flapping them creating a strong wind that took the casters off their feet.
"Stop it! You're scaring her!" Narcissa took it upon herself to summon the wands of the idiots sending spells at her sister, Draco helping. Lucius kicked the hidden wand from one of his colleagues out of grasp, glaring down at the man. Arthur joined the Malfoy's, concern written all over his face. The mare however was uneasy, determined to protect her mistress at all costs. Hermione ran towards the scene followed by Harry and Ron, and the twins. Apollo leapt from Narcissa stuttering past the crazed mare and ran to his familiar.
"She won't let anyone near her. She's protecting her, she can sense Bellatrix isn't in the right frame of mind." Narcissa told Hermione who boldly stepped towards the mare. The mare reared once more striking out, Narcissa gasped in horror, though Hermione showed no signs of fear whatsoever.
"Just make sure you keep them at bay." Hermione said, referring to the ministries men.
"Hermione be carful." Narcissa warned, unsure of this entire situation. Draco took out his wand and pointed it at one of the men who made a move in the Pegasus' direction.

"It's alright Midnight, easy girl. You know I have no intention of hurting her, don't you?" She approached calmly but carefully, arm outstretched, palm facing up offering her hand for the mare to smell. The black beauty snorted, rearing once more though she put her wings away. Hermione moved in slowly, never once taking her eyes off of Midnight. She neighed, followed by another snort but soon pushed her head into the girls hand. Hermione sighed, relief filling her body as she closed in on the mare.
"Good girl." She patted her shoulder before slowly moving past her to Bellatrix.
Narcissa glanced at Lucius who was just as surprised as she was.

Hermione slowly came to kneel in front of the hunched over witch, carefully placing her hand on the woman's shoulder. Apollo chittered, kneading his head into his familiars side.
"It won't stop." When the woman looked up at Hermione the girls heart broke. She looked so lost, so conflicted and sad, her big eyes were the most upsetting part. Her voice was choked and nothing at all like her usual playful or soft tone.
"What wont stop?" She asked, bringing both hands to untangle Bellatrix's grip on her own hair. The witches hands fell to her lap as Hermione cupped her cheeks with both hands.
"Everything." Hermione hadn't expected the woman to collapse into her like she had, but she certainly didn't hesitate in holding her tightly, offering any amount of comfort as she possibly could.

"Does that look like a fucking death eater to you?" Narcissa spat at Barty Crouch who upon appearing made the mistake of making such a remark. Everyone within their vicinity were shocked at the lady Malfoy, who as of right now wasn't very lady like at all. Draco had never even heard his mother swear before, at all. Neither had Lucius or any of them if the looks on their faces were anything to go by. Arthur didn't even know where to look after that bombshell.
"She was discovered at the scene of the crime" Narcissa gave him no chance to finish.
"So was I, so was Lucius and half of your men, even Arthur is here, does that mean we did it to?" She closed the gap between them, standing to her full height before pointing at her sister
"Look at her, look at the state she is in. She's crying into the shoulder of a seventeen year old girl for Merlin's sake. She didn't even fight back when you sent all those stunners at her." Narcissa was seething, and it showed.
"Yer betta' nae be blaming her for this." Alastor approached the group, he knew Fudge held a grudge against the eldest black, and would no doubt blame her for this.
"Not you too." The minister turned to The Auror, who hobbled his way over.
"She fough' against em, took six of um off me back. Yer damn well kno its nae her." He challenged the man, who sighed in defeat.
"Follow me." He ordered his men, though glanced at Narcissa and the collection of wands.
"If you so much as think about casting a spell her way, I'll have your head." Lucius so that as his moment to intervene, pulling his wife away, persuading her to hand the wands over to him. He faked a chuckled as he approached the man, smiling a fake smile before handing him the wands.
"I'm afraid she's not joking Bartemius." He tapped the man's shoulder before returning to his wife's side, watching them as they depart.
"I Never did like him." Nearly every one jumped at the professor's words, no one noticing her even appearing.
"Yer gota stop doin' tha lass, yer'll give me an 'eart attack one day." Moody said, glancing at the head of Gryffindor.
