The morning sun draped Xanadu's rugged plains in hues of orange and crimson, dust devils swirling like restless spirits across the horizon. Azula, Rokkun, and Zuko dismantled their camp with the efficiency of seasoned wanderers, folding tents and securing supplies on their Komodo Rhinos. Their movements were synchronized, a testament to their shared resolve in the hunt for Taijuk and the stolen princes, Sozin and Viszla.
As they mounted their steeds, the unforgiving landscape stretched before them, silent but heavy with anticipation.
Azula guided her rhino alongside Rokkun's, her golden eyes glinting with a playful spark, a rare lightness softening her sharp edges. "I've got a little surprise for you, my love," she teased, her voice low, a smirk curling her lips as if she'd outsmarted the world.
Rokkun, his copper hair catching the sunlight, shot her a sidelong glance, his grin emerging. "A surprise? You know I don't like being kept in the dark, Azula."
She leaned closer, her breath brushing his ear, her tone mischievous. "I'm pregnant," she said, her words carrying a quiet triumph, like a spark igniting kindling.
Rokkun's amber eyes widened, then crinkled with a hearty laugh. "Well," he said, his swagger shining through. "You're full of tricks, aren't you? Another fire to carry our name." He squeezed her hand, his gaze warm with pride. "We'll make this one a force to be reckoned with, just like us."
Zuko, riding behind, caught the exchange, a bittersweet smile tugging at his lips. Azula's unshadowed joy stirred a warmth in his chest, tempered by the ache of their fractured past. For a moment, he let himself hope for her future, despite the storm brewing ahead.
Hours later, the air thickened with humidity as they entered a swamp, guided by the eerie howls of Rokkun's wolves. The stench of rotting vegetation clung to their skin, the ground squelching beneath their rhinos' claws. The wolves froze abruptly, ears perked, growling at an unseen threat lurking in the mist.
Rokkun dismounted, his twin swords gleaming as he crouched low, Azula and Zuko following with practiced stealth. They wove through tall grasses, their senses sharpened by the swamp's oppressive silence, until they reached a clearing. A chaotic Earthbender camp sprawled before them, grim-faced warriors sharpening blades and plotting strategy, their movements tense with purpose.
Azula's eyes narrowed, her voice a low hiss. "Earth Kingdom scum—the ones who raided Xanadu."
Rokkun's gaze locked onto a figure at the camp's center, barking orders with a swagger that twisted his stomach.
"Taijuk," he snarled, the name a curse dripping with venom. "That traitorous snake."
Zuko's hand sparked with flame, his voice cautious. "What's the move? That camp's crawling with Earthbenders."
Rokkun's eyes glinted with predatory intent, his swords flashing in the dappled light. "We end this. But first, I want words with him."
He stepped into the clearing, his presence a thunderclap that silenced the camp. "Taijuk!" he roared, his voice echoing like a war drum.
Taijuk spun, his face paling as he met Rokkun's blazing eyes, fear flickering beneath his defiance. Water swirled around his hands, a sign of his bending prowess, but his posture wavered. "Rokkun," he stammered, forcing a grin. "Didn't expect you so soon."
"You betrayed me," Rokkun growled, his flames licking the edges of his swords. "Sold my sons to the Dai Li. Why, Taijuk? After all we've been through?"
Taijuk's grin faltered, his eyes darting to the Earthbenders around him. "You don't understand, Khan. I was protecting the Nomads—your vision's too narrow, too soft. Someone had to make the hard calls."
"Hard calls?" Rokkun's voice was a low, dangerous rumble. "You handed my children to our enemies. You think that's strength?"
Taijuk's hands tightened, water spiraling faster. "You'll see, Rokkun. I did what was necessary—for a greater future." He gestured sharply, and the Earthbenders surged forward, their intent clear.
