The dawn light barely breached the heavy stone walls of Xanadu, casting long shadows across the fortress's inner courtyard. The air was thick with the scent of ash and damp earth, a reminder of the recent raid that had shattered the Nomads' fleeting peace. Aang sat cross-legged on a worn stone bench, his staff balanced across his knees, his grey eyes scanning the bustling encampment. Nomad warriors sharpened blades, their movements precise, while others hauled supplies, their faces grim under Rokkun's watchful regime.

Aang's friends—Katara, Sokka, Suki, and Toph—lingered nearby, their expressions a mix of frustration and wariness, acutely aware of the Nomad guards posted at every corner, their eyes glinting with suspicion.

"Feels like we're caged ostrich-horses," Sokka muttered, tossing his boomerang up and catching it, his voice low to avoid the guards' attention. "Zuko's off playing hero with Rokkun, and we're stuck here under house arrest."

"It's not house arrest, Sokka," Katara corrected, though her tone carried an edge of doubt. She adjusted her water pouch, her fingers twitching as if itching to bend. "We're... guests. Rokkun agreed to a truce."

"Guests with armed babysitters," Toph snorted, her bare feet planted firmly on the ground, sensing the vibrations of the fortress. "These Nomads are twitchy. Something's off—I can feel it in the stone. Whispers, movements... like they're hiding something."

Suki, leaning against a crate, nodded, her fan tucked into her belt. "Toph's right. This place is a fortress, but it's not just Earthbenders they're worried about. Rokkun's paranoid—probably because of that traitor he mentioned."

Aang sighed, his shoulders slumping. "I thought we could find common ground, but Rokkun's too focused on his sons and his revenge. And now Zuko's going out there with him, chasing Taijuk. I just hope they don't make things worse."

The group fell silent, the weight of their situation settling like dust. They were confined to Xanadu under Rokkun's terms, free to move within the fortress but shadowed by guards. The truce felt fragile, a thin thread stretched taut by mistrust and the specter of Taijuk's betrayal.

A sudden commotion broke the tension. A Nomad scout, his tunic scratched and dusty, burst into the courtyard, his breath ragged. "General Oghuz!" he shouted, stumbling toward the hulking lieutenant, who stood overseeing a weapons drill. "We found something—near the eastern ravine!"

Oghuz's scarred face hardened, his axe gleaming in the dawn light. "Speak, boy. What is it?"

The scout lowered his voice, but Toph's seismic sense caught the vibrations of his words. "A hidden cache—Earth Kingdom markings, sir. Maps, coded messages, and... Dai Li seals. Buried under a false boulder."
Aang's eyes widened, exchanging a glance with Katara. The Dai Li—Long Feng's shadowy agents, masters of espionage, who once controlled Ba Sing Se from the shadows. Their presence in Xanadu, even after their fall, was a chilling revelation.
Toph leaned forward, whispering, "Did you hear that? Dai Li. This traitor business just got a lot messier."

Sokka's eyes narrowed, his mind racing. "Taijuk was Rokkun's lieutenant, right? If he's tied to the Dai Li, that means the Earth Kingdom's playing a deeper game. Maybe they didn't just kidnap Rokkun's kids for leverage—maybe they're pulling strings to destabilize the Nomads from within."
Katara frowned, her voice low. "But why would the Dai Li work with Taijuk? They're Earth Kingdom loyalists. Helping a Fire Nomad traitor doesn't add up."

"Unless they're using him," Suki said, her tone sharp. "The Dai Li don't care about loyalty—they care about control. Taijuk could be their pawn, feeding them intel on Rokkun's plans."

Aang stood, gripping his staff. "We need to find out what's in that cache. If the Dai Li are involved, this could be bigger than Rokkun's vendetta. We need to tell him—or Zuko—before this blows up."

Toph smirked, cracking her knuckles. "Good luck getting past our fan club." She tilted her head toward the guards, who watched them with hawk-like intensity.

As if on cue, Oghuz approached, his heavy steps reverberating through the stone. His axe rested on his shoulder, and his eyes—dark and unyielding—swept over Team Avatar. "Avatar," he growled, his voice like gravel. "You and your friends will come with me. The Khan will want to know what you make of this... discovery."

Sokka raised an eyebrow. "What, no 'please' or 'pretty please'? Some host you are."

Oghuz's lip curled, but he said nothing, gesturing for them to follow. The group exchanged wary glances but complied, flanked by guards as they were led through Xanadu's labyrinthine corridors to a dimly lit chamber deep within the fortress. The air was cool, heavy with the scent of earth and old stone, and a single torch cast flickering shadows across a rough-hewn table.

On the table lay the cache: a collection of parchment scrolls, a small jade seal stamped with the Dai Li's insignia, and a map of Xanadu marked with red ink—entry points, guard rotations, and the Khan's tent circled ominously. Aang's stomach churned as he recognized the precision of the Dai Li's handiwork.

Oghuz crossed his arms, his gaze boring into Aang. "You know these symbols, Avatar. Speak. What does this mean?"

Aang hesitated, choosing his words carefully. "This is Dai Li work—Earth Kingdom spies. They're experts at infiltration, manipulation. These maps and messages suggest someone inside Xanadu was feeding them information. They could be planning another attack—or worse."

Katara stepped forward, her voice steady. "The Dai Li don't act without a bigger goal. They might be using Taijuk to weaken Rokkun, to destabilize the Nomads and make the Earth Kingdom's reconquest easier."

Oghuz's eyes narrowed, his grip tightening on his axe. "You suggest the Khan's own lieutenant betrayed him to the Earth Kingdom? To the same dogs who stole his sons?"

Sokka shrugged, his tone dry. "Wouldn't be the first time someone sold out their boss for a shiny reward. Taijuk's been dodging duty, right? Sounds like a guy who'd take a deal."

Toph, sensing the tension in Oghuz's stance, added, "The stone doesn't lie. There's been sneaky movement around this fortress—hidden passages, secret meetings. Whoever's working with the Dai Li knows Xanadu's weak spots."

Oghuz's face darkened, a storm brewing in his eyes. "If Taijuk is a traitor, he'll beg for death when we find him. But why should I trust you outsiders? For all I know, you're part of this scheme."

Aang raised his hands, his voice calm but firm. "We want peace, Oghuz. If the Dai Li are involved, they're a threat to everyone—Rokkun, the Fire Nation, even the Earth Kingdom's own people. Let us help you investigate. We've dealt with the Dai Li before."

Oghuz studied them, his silence heavy. Finally, he grunted, "The Khan will decide your role. Stay here. Don't test my patience." He turned to a guard, barking orders to summon a messenger to Rokkun, who was still out hunting Taijuk with Zuko.

As Oghuz strode out, Suki leaned in, whispering, "This is our chance. If we can get a look at those scrolls, we might figure out what the Dai Li are planning—and how deep Taijuk's betrayal goes."

Toph grinned, her fingers brushing the stone floor. "Already on it. There's a hidden passage behind that wall—probably how the traitor smuggled this stuff in. I say we take a peek before tall, dark, and grumpy comes back."

Katara hesitated, glancing at the guards outside the chamber. "It's risky. If we get caught, we could lose Rokkun's trust completely."

Aang nodded, his expression resolute. "But if we don't act, the Dai Li could strike again. We need to know what they're after—Sozin and Viszla, Rokkun's throne, or something bigger. Let's do this, but we stay careful."

Sokka smirked, twirling his boomerang. "Careful's my middle name. Let's crack this conspiracy wide open."

With Toph's seismic sense guiding them, the group slipped toward the hidden passage, the torchlight flickering behind them. The Dai Li's shadow loomed large, and the fragile truce with Rokkun hung by a thread. As they vanished into the stone, the weight of Xanadu's secrets pressed down, promising revelations that could either forge peace—or ignite a new war.
