Chapter 16

Reader's POV

"Pokkle, run!" I shouted at the top of my lungs as I tried running after him but my attacker blocked me with his fire.

The fire surrounding me grew ten meters high that I had to cover my mouth from the smoke. I couldn't see what was happening on the outside, whether Pokkle was still alive or not, but I'm hoping that help would come soon.

Whoever my opponent was, he knew every little weakness I had. He knew how to counter me, and he knew about the water stored inside me. Now I'm useless because he blocked every possible way of me to acquire water.

Black dots started appearing soon as the smoke filled up my lungs and last thing that I remembered was... the King's voice?

That must be the smoke messing up with my brain...

I do miss the King though and I wanted to see him one last time before I died.

Meruem/King's POV

I managed to save Pokkle just in time before the fireball hits him. With one swift move, the fireball dissipated in air. I looked at mushroom guy, who was in fear as soon as he saw me and I almost rolled my eyes because of his cowardness.

How come someone like him be a friend of Y/n?

If he weren't Y/n's friend, then I would have killed him too. How dare a mushroom guy makes Y/n worry and even puts her in danger?

"Go help Y/n." I told the mushroom guy, and he immediately rushed towards where Y/n was.

"How dare you! Don't you know I am a Royal guard's assistant! One word and I can get you killed!" The stupid, lowly being, threatened me and I scoffed.

I released a large amount of En, to which this made him bald.

"I guess you don't know who I am, it won't matter if you did. I will kill you for hurting my Royal guard." I showed him what's a real threat would be.

He widened his eyes in fear as he realized who I was.

"M-my King, p-please have m-mercy..." He begged for his life and I gave him a death glare.

"And where was this mercy when you've decided to attack my Royal guard?" I asked him and he screamed before I removed his left hand.

I will show this low creature, and whomever he was working for, never to mess with Y/n ever again. The pleasure of torturing this chimera was so amusing as I instill fear in him but he was getting annoying as he continued screaming.

Without any hesitation, I strike his mouth so I wouldn't be able to hear him scream anymore. I already removed his arms, the only thing that stopped me from continuing to torture him was Pokkle carrying Y/n in his arms.

I walked towards him and took Y/n. I stared at her face, she was beaten up so badly so she wouldn't be able to heal herself while unconscious. 

"You, follow me." I told the mushroom guy and started walking away.

I want to know what's so special about this mushroom guy and why is Y/n so invested in him. He's just a mushroom guy whereas for me, I am the King. I can- 

What am I talking about? Why am I even comparing myself to this lowly human being?

We made it to the castle and when the butterfly and cat saw me, they immediately went to pay their respect.

What was their names again?

I looked at Pouf and saw his eyes narrowing as he saw Y/n in my arms. I knew immediately that he was the one who sent the killer. 

"King-sama, what happened? Are you hurt?" Pouf questioned and I held everything back in me not to kill him.

After all, Y/n wouldn't like that.

"No, but Y/n is. You..." I pointed at the butterfly. "Get me a lot of water."

I walked past them and heard what the butterfly was mumbling. "Damn it, she's still alive. I must think of other way to get rid of her." 

Why does he want to get rid of Y/n?

I went into the bedroom and placed Y/n on the bed. I've forgotten that the mushroom guy was still following me so I turned to him.

"You, tell me everything you told Y/n." I demanded and he gulped before opening his mouth.

He told me everything and explained it in a more detailed way. I listened intently, making sure that I won't miss any words he said and when he finished, everything became clear to me.

"So everything I've been feeling is... love?" I asked mushroom guy and he nodded in confirmation.

I looked at Y/n and finally, everything made sense.

I love her...

Out of all the people and Chimeras, I had to fall in love with the most annoying creature. Though she may be annoying, she would do anything just to protect those whom she cares about, specially me.

I should protect-

Hmph. Protect her? Since when did I start thinking that? 

Me? The King? To think that I need to protect someone is unheard of. She's my Royal guard, she should be protecting me.

I stared at Y/n's face and the wounds she got. I don't know why but my heart is in pain seeing her in a state like this. That's when I made up my mind that I will do everything in my power to protect this... woman I love.

"You..." I trailed off while looking at the mushroom guy. "Can you distinguish poison?"
