"It's different for everyone, girl," Zach started. "For example, I thought I was straight all through high school. I was this awkward guy who never fit in. Even though I had crushes on girls, I never confessed. I just thought I was weak, you know? I wasn't one of those cool sports guys. Plus, I got bullied a lot."
"I'm sorry," I said softly.
He waved it off. "Hey, I'm over it now. Anyway, I went to college and got a roommate. You can imagine the rest."
"Oh, so that was your awakening?" I asked, intrigued.
"Yeah, that was my awakening."
"And did you two end up together?"
He shook his head. "Nah. His family was super homophobic. There was a lot of drama, and we broke it off."
"Oh," I muttered awkwardly.
Zach narrowed his eyes playfully. "Now I'm curious. What's up with you suddenly quitting stripping, going back to college, and asking how to know if you're gay? Did something happen during that one-night stand with Ms. Alice?"
"Alice? No, no!" I waved my hands defensively. "It wasn't Alice, and nothing happened that night."
He grinned mischievously. "Then there's someone else. Who's the lucky girl?"
"Zach, just stop. We're not—"
"What a thing!"
"Nope! We're nothing. And honestly, I'm not even sure what I'm feeling or doing. It's all so confusing."
"Hey, calm down. First of all, you're young, Zoya. It's perfectly natural to learn things about yourself."
"But Zach, I don't even find women attractive that way! And her? Ugh, I used to hate her. She's so annoying, rude, cold... and hot too. Oh, fuck me."
"Whoa, whoa! That's a lot. Chill, girl." He laughed. "Sounds like you have some mixed feelings about this woman."
"I don't know, Zach. But she's good at getting on my nerves. And yeah, she's kind of hot—tall, blonde, sharp jawline, green eyes."
"Oh, girl, I don't blame you. She sounds amazing."
"Yeah," I admitted grudgingly. "I hate to say it, but she's fucking attractive. And you know what? She's my ex's wife."
Zach gasped, covering his mouth. "What the actual fuck? This is wild!"
"Ugh, we're not dating, Zach!"
"Then what? You got a crush on her?"
"It's just... I kissed her a few days back."
"And she kissed back?"
"Yeah," I sighed. "Then she asked me why I kissed her, and... we ended up kissing again."
"Fruity," he teased with a smirk. "So, how do you feel?"
"About what?"
"About the kiss, dummy."
I paused, heat creeping up my face. "Well, it was... nice and okay, I guess," I stammered.
"Come on, Zoya. Just admit it. Women are the best kissers," he declared proudly. "I haven't slept with any women, but the ones I kissed? Damn good."
"Fine, I liked it," I muttered.
"So, do you want to kiss her again?"
"I... I haven't really asked myself that question," I confessed.
"Agh, I don't know. Depends."
"You thought about anything beyond kissing?"
I shook my head quickly. "No, I haven't."
