The next morning arrived with the soft warmth of the sun, casting golden hues through the windows, signaling a new day-Mahek's Mehendi Ceremony.
Everyone woke up early, the house bustling with excitement. The aroma of fresh flowers mixed with the scent of mehendi powder filled the air. Muskan, however, didn't feel like herself. Her head felt heavy, and her stomach uneasy. Skipping breakfast seemed like the easiest choice.
While the family gathered at the breakfast table, laughter echoing, Aman's eyes kept searching for his Jaan. But as time passed and Muskan didn't show up, his restlessness grew.
Turning towards Sufiya, he finally asked, "Sufi, where is Jaan? Why hasn't she come for breakfast?"
Sufiya looked up from her plate. "Bhai, Bhabhi said she doesn't feel like eating anything."
Aman's brows furrowed. "Did she have something in the morning?"
Sufiya shook her head. "No, bhai. Actually, when I woke up, I saw Bhabhi rushing to the washroom... she threw up. She looks really weak. When I asked, she said she's fine, but I can tell she's not. Maybe you should take her to the doctor."
Without another word, Aman stood up, his heart clouded with worry, leaving his half-eaten breakfast behind.
Aman reached Muskan's room, where she was getting ready with Zunaisha. He knocked softly.
Zunaisha opened the door with a bright smile. "Yes, Bhai? Do you need something?"
Before Aman could respond, Muskan's voice came from behind, "Who's there, Zuni?"
When Muskan saw Aman standing outside holding a breakfast tray, her heart skipped a beat.
Zunaisha gave them a knowing smile. "I think Mom's calling me... I'll be back!" She quickly left, giving them space.
Aman entered quietly, placed the tray on the table, and walked over to Muskan. Without saying a word, he gently held her hand and guided her to the couch, sitting down in front of her.
He picked up a piece of aloo paratha, broke it into a small morsel, and held it out to her. "Eat," he said softly.
Muskan shook her head. "I don't want to eat this," she murmured.
Aman didn't argue. He placed the morsel back on the plate and handed her a glass of orange juice. She gulped it down quickly.
"Why didn't you come to the breakfast table?" Aman asked, his voice calm but filled with concern.
Muskan sighed. "I didn't feel like eating. I even tried calling you, but you didn't pick up."
Aman just hummed, avoiding further argument. With gentle persistence, he picked up another morsel and brought it close to her lips.
Muskan scrunched her nose but ate it silently when Aman gave her a stern look.
Bit by bit, Aman managed to feed her almost an entire paratha. "It's enough now; I can't eat more," Muskan whispered, holding her stomach.
"Just one last bite, please, Jaan," Aman said softly, his eyes pleading.
Muskan reluctantly opened her mouth, and he fed her the final piece.
"Do you want your tea?" Aman asked gently.
Muskan shook her head and instead leaned forward to hug him tightly.
Aman kissed her forehead, his hands rubbing gentle circles on her back. "Jaan, are you okay?"
Muskan only hummed in response.
