As the day at the hospital came to a close, Sarang was mentally drained. She had navigated the hectic pace of her first day with grace, but she could feel the exhaustion weighing heavily on her. It was already evening, and the hospital lobby was beginning to clear out as staff members wrapped up their shifts.
Sarang made her way toward the elevator, hoping to get home and rest. Just as she reached the doors, they started to close.
"Please hold the door for me!" Sarang shouted, her voice carrying across the lobby.
From inside the elevator, a hand reached out and pressed the button to hold the doors. Sarang quickly rushed over, her heels clicking on the floor as she barely made it inside just as the doors closed behind her.
"Thanks so much!" she said, catching her breath.
Dr. Han, the pediatric surgeon who had shown her around earlier in the day, smiled brightly at her.
"No problem," he replied, his voice warm and welcoming.
They exchanged pleasantries as the elevator descended, both of them headed for the parking garage. As they walked toward the exit, Dr. Han turned to her with a reassuring smile.
"You did a good job today," he said, his tone sincere. "I know it's a lot to take in on the first day, but you handled it well."
Sarang smiled back, grateful for his kindness. "Thank you, Dr. Han," she replied.
He nodded, his expression softening. "You'll get used to it. The hospital can be overwhelming, but you can always come to me if you need anything—questions, advice, or just someone to talk to."
Sarang appreciated his warmth. She could already tell he was someone who genuinely cared about others.
Dr. Han was a year older than her, and from the way he spoke, it was clear he was already familiar with the hospital's daily rhythms. His presence was calming, and his easy smile helped take the edge off Sarang's nerves.
As they reached the hospital's entrance, he gave her a friendly wave.
"Goodbye, Sarang. See you around. Don't hesitate to reach out."
Sarang smiled back and waved as they parted ways, heading toward their respective cars.
She was grateful for Dr. Han's kind words, but as soon as she reached her apartment, fatigue overtook her. She barely had the energy to remove her coat before heading straight for the shower. The warm water helped her unwind, but it didn't take long before exhaustion seeped into her bones again.
After a quick dinner of delivery food, Sarang wrapped up the day, mentally preparing herself for her upcoming night shifts. But as she lay in bed, her mind drifted to thoughts of Sunghoon.
The curiosity that had been bubbling inside her ever since she discovered his idol status had reached its peak. Despite her resolve not to get swept up in it, she couldn't help herself.
Sarang grabbed her phone, the need to hear his voice growing stronger with each passing moment.
She searched for his group's name, and her eyes widened as she saw the countless songs with hundreds of millions of views. She scrolled, her heart racing with anticipation, until she stumbled upon their debut song.
She clicked on it without thinking, and as the music played, Sarang was mesmerized. Watching Sunghoon on screen, singing and dancing with his team members, felt surreal. He had always been so talented, but seeing him here, larger than life, was a different experience entirely.
