The morning light seeped through the heavy curtains of the Shergill mansion, casting golden hues on the marble floor. A soft breeze fluttered in through the slightly open window, making the sheer drapes sway like whispers in the silence.

Saachi stirred, her body curled beneath the warmth of the thick comforter. A small sigh escaped her lips as she blinked her eyes open, adjusting to the dim light in the room. The cold air of Kashmir was ever-present, but it wasn’t the chill outside that made her shiver.

It was the hollowness inside her.

For the first time in days, she had slept without interruptions. But now, as she lay awake, something felt… off.  A strange sense of solitude pressed against her chest.

Slowly, she sat up, pushing her messy hair away from her face. The silk sheets pooled around her lap as she reached for her phone on the bedside table. The moment the screen lit up, her heart stopped.

The wallpaper.

A frozen moment from a past she had desperately tried to bury.

Adhyant’s strong arms wrapped around her waist, his face pressed into her hair while she laughed, her eyes shining with happiness. It was a stolen moment, a picture taken on a rare day when they had forgotten their war.

When she had still believed in him. In the deepness of revenge and getting his trust she has gone too far with him. Just to break him to the death she has just not played with only his emotions she has even played with her own emotions too.

Her fingers trembled as she traced the edges of the screen. She should have changed it. She should have erased every single memory of him. But she hadn’t.

Her throat tightened as emotions swirled inside her like a violent storm. It had been two days since she had walked away from him. Two Days since she had watched him fall, believing she had won.

Then why did it feel like she had lost instead?
Before she could stop herself, her fingers hovered over the call log. His name was still there.

Her mind drifted back to the last time she had seen him. His dark, piercing eyes filled with disbelief. The betrayal etched onto his face. The way his body had tensed as if trying to hold himself together when she had shattered him.

She closed her eyes, inhaling shakily.

“Stop thinking about him, Saachi.” Her grip tightened around the phone as she forced herself to look away. She couldn’t afford to break it now.

Not when she had already come so far. Pushing back the lump in her throat, she tapped the screen to check her messages.

There were none. Not from Adhyant. Not from anyone in the Sherawat family.

A strange ache settled in her chest. She had expected them to reach out, to demand answers, to drag her back if necessary.

A knock on the door startled her out of her thoughts. “Come in,” she called, clearing her throat.

The door creaked open, and Tejas stepped inside, his face calm but his eyes unreadable. He came inside with a servant who was holding a small tray with a cup of tea, just the way she liked it.

“Good morning, gudiya,” he greeted, and asked the servant to place the tray on the bed. Placing the tray the servant went out.

She forced a smile. “Good morning, Dadaji.”

Tejas sat on the edge of the chair, his sharp eyes studying her. “You didn’t come downstairs for dinner last night.”

She looked away. “I wasn’t hungry.”
