2 | Saudade Content1.1) What are the languages you speak?
I'm fluent in English, and I speak Chinese, Korean and Spanish. I want to learn Japanese, though, because apparently learning one or two East Asian languages make it easier to learn the third one (or fourth, if you count North Korean...??)
1.2) What's your favourite song and artist?
I can't pick one (naturally), but I have a few! My favorite artists are Taylor Swift, NIKI Zefanya, Lorde, and Gracie Abrams, but I've also started listening to the Goo Goo Dolls and Bleachers recently. As for my favorite songs... I also have too many LMAO. The top three would be Backburner by NIKI, Iris by the Goo Goo Dolls, and Would've, Could've, Should've by Taylor.
1.3) What is the historical event that you're most interested in?
Call me basic, but I love WWII and the Cold War, especially the latter. The Cuban Missile Crisis always piques my interest. But not to say I don't like anything in ancient/medieval eras, or the Middle Ages (I am a history fanatic), I just tend to prefer modern events. Oh but the Age of Revolution was crazy interesting - maybe that's why all my books have some degree of student revolt in them and this is me projecting. Uhhhhhhh
1.4) If you could go to a historical event, which one would it be?
Pearl Harbor /j I'd like to experience the Renaissance. Yes, like all historical events, it has its share of positives and negatives, rebirth and disease and death, etc., but there is something so very special about centuries that have passed, times where the technology didn't rely so much on digital power and more on pure human effort. Not to romanticize it because some events certainly undermine its... romanticizability (that is not a word), but it's just that there's this longing for times where everything was just beautifully ancient. I'd like to experience the flourishing of art and music and the unpredictability of the future.
1.5) What is your favourite ship out of all in the whole CH fandom?
Is it obvious or is it obvious. America and Russia are peak, in all depictions of themselves... but I also love China and North. It's too bad they're barely written about but I hope I'm doing them justice in Saudade.
But I feel like if I wasn't such an RusAme enthusiast I would prefer SovAme. If Soviet and America were the MCS of Saudade, I feel like the story would lean much more towards sad undertones than mystery or humor. It's in the nature of the Cold War, how they pushed each other to their limits, toyed with the brink of humanity, and the impact of the USSR's dissolution on the United States. Whew... I do love myself a tragic pairing.
1.6) What's your favorite dish?
I have loads but I love Korean food (thankfully I get to eat authentic Korean food with a Korean parent and frequent visits to the country for summer/winter breaks). Specifically this meat dish called Suyuk (수육). Brother that shit is actually heavenly. You won't get it until you try it... so please try it. I swear to god if someone doesn't feed me that on my deathbed /j
1.7) What's your original work about?
My original novel has been in the works for about 2.5 or so years by now, with a one year hiatus because I kind of gave up on it in early 2024. It's a fantasy-dystopia book set on a monarchial floating island (the first book, at least). There are elements of fantasy, but there are dystopian undertones in the form of government censorship, human experimentation, peace v. war, political transparency, brotherhood and family, history, and forgiveness. Now that I think about it, it's similar to Saudade, except it's much more complex in terms of plot... and there's magical powers, or whatever cooler name you have in your mind for them. There are light and dark parallels, revolts and revolutions, a mysterious organization with co-leaders possessing clashing beliefs, killing games, blue fire, hatching plots for revenge on their rival islands that have done them wrong, and a female MC out to find the truth.
