Ch 4: Leadership

Clare sits on the ground with her back leaning against the tree. All of her fellow warrios left the area and went back to Rebona. She is alone thinking over what just happened. She could not belive she was just made leader of 99 warriors. This is something big, bigger than getting revenge against Parcilla. Why did the warriors choose her as leader? Can she even lead?
As she thinks deeply about this situation. Someone who was watching nearby approach her. Clare look up to see who it is; it was Jean.
"What is it Jean?" She asked "is something wrong?"
"I want to apologize for not pledging my allegiance to you properly, forgive my ill maner" said Jean.

There she again, annoying Clare a little with her loyalty.
"How many times do I have tell you don't own my anything. So stop being so dame loyal to me Jean" said Clare annoyed.
"But you are now our leader shurely I have to......" started Jean.
"ENOUGH WITH ALL THE LEADER STUFF JEAN!" sapped Clare "I AM NOT A LEADER, I NEVER ASK TO BE ONE AND NEVER WILL BE!"
Jean stares at Clare who is very upset. Clare was made leader by the choice of the Claymores and not once they ask her if she wants the position. Jean feels kind of guilty about it beacuse she was one of them. Jean wants to give Clare advice, but her experience as a leader was not good. Clare needs to talk to someone with more experience and sense of security, someone like Irene.
Jean turn and left Clare alone. Going to ask Irene a favor that kind of angers her, but she is doing it fo Clare not for herself.

Clare stays under that tree, until the sun started to set. She was about to head back, when Irene shows up.
"Is something bothering you?" Ask Irene.
Clare looks up at Irene, she then turns away. Irene quietly sits next to her. The sound of the trees rustling in the wind replace the silence.
"Why did they pick me?" Said Clare breaking the silence.
"Beacuse you where the logical choice" said Irene.
"But how? How am I the logical choos? What is it about me they see?"
Irene was silent for a moment before speaking "Clare you are accountable, decisive, mindful, careing, honest, bold, ethical, and adaptable. Those are what every warrior see in you and find very inspiring"
Clare got up, not really convinced of what Irene said.
Irene got up too,and tries to convince her.
"One should not pounder over this, when a warrior is made leader they just take the position, so why Don't you want this postion?" said Irene.

Clare thinks for a moment before speaking "Irene I can't become a leader" she said "if I lead I fear they will die"
"That makes you accountable" said Irene "but it also tells me you care about them"
"I do and thats why I am not going to be leader"
Irean became disappointed with Clare.
"Then who do you think will be a better sutor for the position?"
"Miria, the ledership role is more suitable for her than for me, she is a natural leader"
Irean sighed "Clare look at me" she said.
Clare look at Irene.
"Heed my words Clare, If someone where to take your position, chances are the warriors will perish more quickly than being lead by you" said Irene seriously.
Irene then turn into the direction to Rebona and left Clare alone. Ending the conversation before it becomes pointless.

Clare thinks at what Irene just said, wondering what she means. But she doupt that the warriors will perish, each and everyone of them are strong and unique in thier own way. Clare decided to resign and pass the position to Miria. Her comrads may find it offeansive, But in Clare's mind she feels its for the best of everyone.

(Next Day)

The next day in the morning, Clare set out to the training grounds. At the Gate Clare was greeted by Jean.
"Good morning" she said.
"Morning" responed Clare.

Both warriors walk quietly through the woods. As always Jean walks behind Clare. Jean wants to ask Clare if she decided to permanently be thier leader, but she is afraid to ask beacuse she might get angry again.

Clare suddenly stopped walking, Jean did the same. Eventhough they are walking to the same place, Jean does not dare to stray away from Clare.
"What do you want to ask me Jean?" Said Clare not looking back.
Jean was surprised that Clare read her very quickly.
"I want to know if you decided to be our leader?"
Clare did not answer right away all she said was "will see".
Clare stayed quiet until they arrive at the training site.
