Promises, Promises

      The doctor checked Nikki's vitals, after she and Victor finished eating breakfast. Her condition had continued to improve,  but she still needed to take it easy-especially since her blood loss was still a concern. The doctor left after saying his piece, and Nikki remembered Victor said he would call Sharon to bring Christianson today. 

"So, are you going to keep your promise and let Christianson come visit?" Nikki hoped Victor hadn't changed his mind, but knew she probably shouldn't hold her breathe.

"Darling, do you think we should wait a day or two? You know, just until you feel stronger."

"Victor, I feel well enough to at least see him. He isn't that big of a handful yet."

"Nikki," Victor started with a tone of caution, "you couldn't even feed yourself this morning sweetheart."

"Victor, please," she begged.

"It's for the best, darling. I want you to take it easy, and not over do it."

"He's only three and half months old, it's not like he'll be running around and getting into things," she said trying to sit up and prove to him she isn't as weak as he thinks.

"Yes, I know that, but he'll want you to hold him and play with him. But you can't so how are you going to say no to him. I don't want you to strain yourself."

"How about you hold him next to me then?" she smiled trying desperately to convince him.

Victor sighed. "I don't think it's a good idea."

Nikki's smile quickly faded, and she turned away from him. "Just another broken promise," she said trying to hold her tears back.

"Darling, I'm just doing what's best for you," he tried to reason.

"Just go," she told him motionless.

"Nikki...don't do this," he put his hand on her shoulder,  but she pushed it away.

     Victor stood up, put his coat on, and left. Nikki's emotions over took her, and she let all her anxiety and fustration out. She was curled up in a ball of pain and hurt, which wasn't just due to her recent surgery.

      Victor was going to sit in the cafeteria, and wait for Nikki to calm down and see reason, but decided to attack all their problems at the source. He was going to the police station to see Jack.
