Chapter 32

Exhausted Shadow Rider fell into his bed at Wu Shi Academy, Cain was actually sure he hadn't slept since arriving in this world, at this point the only thing keeping him going were lots of potions meant to keep his mana and energy reserves from running out.

Cain was laying there thinking about a conversation Cain had with Sonya.

Flashback

"Someone who's immortal can never understand real pain," Sonya cried as they watched Jax getting his arms replaced, and Cain tried to comfort Sonya.

"Do you even know the definition of Immortality?" asked Cain as he looked into Sonya's eyes with glowing purple eyes.

"It means that I, and only I, cannot die, would you like to take a guess at how many funerals I've been to, how many friendly smiles I've seen turn into flowers in front of a tomb stone, Hm?" asked Cain.

"And some of them don't even get that ending, I've seen people crumble, disappear without a trace, endings so horrible that no on should have ever seen them," growled Cain.

"And that's not all," Cain said and you could hear sadness in his voice.

"I am afraid of loving anyone, for I know, that inevitably, they will crumble away, or betray me," said Cain and for a moment you could see a tear run down his face.

"Do not act as if I do not know, what pain is, all I know, is pain," said Cain looking over at Sonya with a single glowing purple eye showing as he walked away, unaware that Wanda, Illyana, and Ororo were listening.

Flashback end

Cain slammed a fist into the wall feeling his anger well up, "is this what it was like for you when you came back from Hell and found your wife with another man, Al?" Cain asked no one in particular though was asking his mentor.

"The pain doesn't go away my student, but you come to terms with it, and find a way to use it in your wars," Al said.

The Baxter Building

Petra just looked down, knowing she was the cause of some of that pain, even if unintentionally, her being with Harry hurt Cain, her bond with Normie and Marry made it seem like she no longer cared for her daughter, yes she could blame Mephisto, but Petra still felt somewhat responsible for that pain.

Mortal Kombat

Cain laid back and closed his eyes when he heard a knock at his door, Cain sat up and rubbed his eyes, guessing sleep would elude him for now.

Cain waved his hand opening the door with Rulers Authority, "Cain," Wanda said as she, Illyana, and Ororo walked in.

"What is it Wanda, more trouble?" Cain asked.

"No, it's just time we talked," said Wanda.

"Can't it wait till tomorrow, I haven't slept since we got here, hell I don't know how long we've been here," said Cain.

"No Cain," said Ororo.

"Ahh," groaned Cain.

"Fine, what do you three want to talk about?" asked Cain.

"What we saw in your head," said Magik.

"Was that?" Ororo asked.

"Yes it was all real, there are an infinite number of Earths out there, some I marry Petra, and Petra only, some I marry Wanda, some I marry Illyana, some I marry Ororo, any possible lover you can think of me having, likely, a universe exists where I'm with them," said Cain.
