In the city of New York rain fell hard from the sky, as a young man dressed in all black walked the streets.
This young man, was Cain Jonathan Blaze, also known as the superhero Shadow Rider, or anti hero depending on who you asked.
As the demonic savage hero walked the streets he thought back to an argument he had with his best friend, "you could have stopped this, all of it, you chose to be in Hell rather than on Earth, if you were here, I wouldn't have lost MJ, I wouldn't have lost Naruto, Jaune, Issei, Izuku, Mayday, Richard, Annie, it's all your fault," Peter had said.
He was right, it was his fault, if Cain hadn't gone to Hell with the Midnight Suns to fight Mephistos army during the civil war, he could've stopped the Civil War, but no, Cain had chosen to take his team and fight the demons of Hell, and to stop him, Mephisto had taken advantage of the despair Peter was going through thanks to his aunt being shot.
In an attempt to stop Shadow Rider and the Midnight Suns Mephisto offered Peter a deal, but unknown to any of them, Peters children, Mayday, Annie, Felicity, Naruto, Issei, Izuku, and Jaune, as well as some of Cains own children, Roxanne, Satsuki, Momo, Katsumi, Vali, Rias, Akeno, and Rin snuck into the Sanctum Sanctorum and used a spell to wipe the memories of everyone who knew Peters identity, but in rage, Mephisto banished the children to different universes across the omniverse, and erased them from all but Cains own mind, leaving Cain to search for his children and nephews alone.
Honestly if that had been the worst of it, Cain might have been able to deal with it better, Cain also lost the women in his life whom he loved, his first love, Petra Parker, the twin sister of Peter Parker was now dating Harry Osborn, and raising Normie Osborn as her own child, the painful part of this, Mephisto not only took his child with Petra away, he took her memories of Roxanne and Cain, her memories were either taken or altered and Cain was replaced with Harry Osborn as a heroic incarnation of Green Goblin.
The soul of Madalyn after the loss of the memories of their daughters daughters Akeno and Rias had been corrupted, and Madalyn returned to her Black Queen personality, Rogue had returned to Gambits side after forgetting Satsuki and the relationship between her and Cain.
One of the more painful ones was Seras and Nico, both were his teammates, mothers to his children Katsumi and Rin, but the vampire and blood witch, when their memories were erased, they had memories of being in a relationship themselves, and Cain couldn't and wouldn't ever want to hurt those he cares for, so he stepped back into the shadows that spawned him.
For years Cain worked to find his children, his nieces, and his nephews but he failed, one day, to capitalize on the despair of both Cain and Peter after Peter had found out MJ had a husband and children, Mephisto returned the memories of his family, and in his anger, Peter blamed Cain.
Cain held no ill will towards Peter because, he was right, Cain could have stopped Mephisto, but he didn't and now people he cared about suffered, they suffered long before he met them all because their fates were entwined with his own, Peter, Illyana, his mother, how many suffered because of Cain.
As the young demon, angel, human/mutant hybrid walked past an alley he went into it and used the shadows to make it to a top of a building where he sat getting pelted with rain an aura of shadow surrounded him protecting him from the rain.
