It was 11 p.m., and Mikey was lying in bed. He'd been up for 3 hours and was completely exhausted. He just couldn't seem to fall asleep.
Mikey had ADHD, which sometimes led to him having insomnia because he just couldn't get his noisy brain to be quiet.
Mikey's thoughts raced most of the time. His mind was rarely quiet. Tonight, it was bad. His brain was going into overdrive!
"Need to skateboard!"
"Hungryyy!"
"Must. Draw. Everything!"
"So tired..."
"Need pizza..."
Mikey sighed, regressing. He was scared, tired, and felt so alone. His family was asleep and he didn't want to disturb them over something so minor.
"Scawed...bwain gotta stop...won't stop..." Mikey muttered, starting to silently cry into his hands. He curled up in a ball, mind racing.
Meanwhile, Leo suddenly woke up. His mother hem senses were tingling. "Hmm...someone needs me..." He yawned, put on his mask, and snuck out of bed.
Leo walked past Mikey's room and heard crying. He immediately hurried in and found Mikey sitting on his bed and quietly crying.
"Otouto...?" Leo whispered from the doorway, not wanting to frighten his baby brother. "Hey, bud, what's wrong...? Bad dream...?" He walked to Mikey's bed.
Mikey raised his head from his hands and sniffled. His baby blue eyes were red and puffy. Leo could immediately tell that Mikey had regressed.
"Hey...how old are you, little brother?" Leo asked quietly as he sat next to Mikey and held him close on his lap. Mikey sniffled ans clung to Leo.
"4..." Mikey softly said, sniffling more. "No bad dweam...can't sleep, Lee-Lee...bwain won't...tuwn off..." He held his head and cried some more.
Leo frowned a bit and rubbed Mikey's head softly. Everyone knew how bad bis ADHD could get. He tended to get overestimated, overwhelmed, and not be able to fall asleep.
It was worse when he regressed.
"Aw, bud, why didn't you get one of us...?" Leo inquired, cuddling his upset little brother. Mikey shrugged and just rested his head on Leo's shoulder.
"Evewyone was sleeping, nii-san..." Mikey mumbled. Leo sighed and reminded him to get one of them, no matter what, the next time this happened.
Mikey sniffled again and clung to Leo. "Lee...bwain won't stop...don't like it...please make it stop, nii-san..." He begged, eyes shimmering.
Leo hummed. When Mikey's ADHD was this bad at night, one way to help Mikey was to distract his racing mind with something positive.
He had an idea...
Leo held his baby brother close on his lap and softly started to sing while rocking Mikey. "Come stop your crying, it will be alright...just take my hand, hold it tight...~"
Mikey sniffled and reached for his big brother's hand. Leo smiled and gently squeezed Mikey's hand to help him regulate his overactive mind. "I will protect you from all around you, I will be here, don't you cry...~"
Leo continued while rubbing Mikey's head soothingly. "For one so small, you seem so strong...my arms will hold you, keep you safe and warm...~"
Mikey hugged Leo as Leo wrapped him in a protective embrace, holding him close. "This bond between us can't be broken, I will be here, don't you cry...'cause you'll be in my heart, yes, you'll be in my heart, fom this day on now and forever more...~"
Mikey smiled a little and wiped his tears. "You'll be in my heart, no matter what they say, you'll be here in my heart, always...~" Leo rocked his baby brother.
"Why can't they understand the way we feel? They just don't trust what they can't explain...I know we're different but deep inside us, we're not that different at all...~"
Mikey yawned as Leo placed a Funshine care bear paci that was yellow. Mikey softly sucked on it, giggling softly. He was feeling a bit calmer.
"And you'll be in my heart, yes, you'll be in my heart... from this day on now and forever more..don't listen to them 'cause what do they know? We need each other, to have, to hold...they'll see in time, I know...~"
Mikey snuggled close his big brother and laid down next to him. Leo laid next to Mikey and cuddled him close. "When destiny calls you, you must be strong... I may not be with you, but you've got to hold on, they'll see in time, I know...we'll show them together...~"
Mikey giggled and yawned more as Leo placed his teddy bear in his arms and rocked him. "'Cause you'll be in my heart, velieve me, you'll be in my heart, I'll be there from this day on, now and forever more...~"
Leo cuddled Mikey close and nuzzled him. "Oh, you'll be in my heart, no matter what they say, you'll be here in my heart, always...I'll be with you, I'll be there for you always...just look over your shoulder...I'll be there, always...~"
Leo smiled down at Mikey who was now peacefully asleep. Leo yawned and snuggled his otouto close, closing his eyes.
"Goodnight, little sunshine...I'll be here, always..."
