Then I stepped back and summoned a fresh set of orbs to lift myself into the air once more.
But before I could take off-
BOOM!!
A massive explosion rocked the stadium, shaking the ground beneath my feet.
Then came another. And another.
The sky filled with smoke as panic rippled across the arena.
Screams echoed through the arena as people pointed toward a dense cloud of dust not far from where we stood.
As the dirt slowly settled...
There's no fucking way.
My eyes widened, and a grin tugged at the corners of my lips.
Gang fucking Orca!
There he stood, looming like a storm over the shattered wall he'd just destroyed.
Then I noticed them- the people behind him.
A swarm of more than a hundred villains began pouring into the stadium like ants from a broken hill.
"Fuck me," I muttered under my breath, still staring in fan-girl awe at Gang Orca before snapping into a fighting stance.
"Tell me, wannabe heroes..." Gang Orca's deep voice rolled through the air like thunder. "Can you rescue people and fight at the same time?"
He raised a fist, and with a single clench, his army of villains surged forward, sprinting down the hill of broken buildings toward us.
Save people and battle? Not a lot of hero's can do this shit. How do you expect for a bunch of teens in training to?
But something in me sparked- a fleeting jolt of thrill that surged through my chest like lightning.
It disappeared as quickly as it came... but it felt good.
"Now," Gang Orca flipped the back of his 'cape', making it swish in the wind as he slowly walked. His hand in the air with his head tilled down. "how will you react? Will you fight or protect? Help or run away? What would a hero do?"
"No running away here," I whispered, summoning the orbs around me again. This time, they burned brighter- pulsing with resolve.
I stepped forward-
"Get everyone to safety!" a voice yelled. I turned to see Shindo sprinting toward the villains, his black hair whipping behind him.
"Get them as far away from the villains as possible! I'll start hammering away at the henchmen at one-second intervals!" He yelled.
I scoffed and turned back to the crowd, dimming my orbs to avoid accidental blasts. Giant platforms formed beneath my control.
"Everyone, listen to me!" I shouted. Injured civilians and workers turned, panic etched in their faces. "You're going to be alright. Just follow my lead!"
Some of the kids cried, clutching onto older workers.
"I want the weakest on the platforms first! If you can walk, follow behind!"
Another quake shook the ground. Still, I pressed on.
"These orbs won't go off unless I tell them to- trust me! Help the injured onto them!"
More than ten orb platforms hovered into position. Workers hurried to help load the elderly and wounded.
I directed them toward the safe zone, a few blocks west, where the destruction hadn't reached.
