Zoe's POV
"Junior!" I shouted from the bottom of the staircase.
"What?" I heard him respond from his room.
I ignored his question and stood with my hand on my hip, waiting impatiently. After a few seconds, I heard his bedroom door opened and soon his head appeared over the banister of the stairs.
"Yes, Mom?"
"Do you have your things together?"
"Yes."
"Where are they?"
"In my room."
I nodded. "Well bring it down. You're leaving soon."
His face fell. "Uhh..."
I raised an eyebrow. "Uhhh what?"
He looked down at his feet. "Well I actually didn't pack anything yet..."
"Really Junior?" I scoffed. "What have I told you about lying to me, huh?"
"I'm sorry-"
"No! I don't wanna hear it." I interrupted, stomping up the stairs toward him. "Wait until I get up there, I'm tired of-"
"Mommy!" Heaven called from downstairs.
I stopped in my tracks on the middle of the staircase. "What, honey?"
"He's here!"
I sighed and cut my eyes at Junior. "Go pack. Now." I snapped, pointing my finger at him. "And you better not keep him waiting."
He nodded and sulked toward his bedroom. I took a deep breath and adjusted my dress and hair before descending back down the stairs.
As I approached the front door I cursed myself for being so anxious. Why does this always happen? Every time he comes around I act like I've never seen him before.
I saw Heaven peeking her head through the curtains of a window and jumping up and down as she watched him.
"Out of the window." I ordered.
She closed the curtains quickly and ran after me as I continued toward the door.
I finally reached it and reluctantly extended my hand to twist the door knob and pull it open.
And there he was. Handsome as ever. Making my heart beat way too fast as always.
"Daddy!" Heaven exclaimed, bolting into his arms.
"Hey, baby girl!" He giggled, twirling her around.
I heard quick footsteps and Junior popped into view. "Hey Dad!" He smiled, dashing over to hug him.
"Hey there, buddy! How you been?" He grinned as he wrapped his arms around Junior.
The whole time I just stood and stared at him, still unsure of how to greet him even after all this time.
After dishing out hugs and kisses to both kids he finally looked up at me. My mouth hung open slightly and I swallowed a lump in my throat as our eyes met.
"Hello, Zoe." He said softly.
"Hey, Mike." I barely managed to respond.
"How are you?"
"I'm fine. You?"
He nodded. "I'm alright."
"Let's go, Daddy!" Heaven urged, tugging his hand. "I want to go to Neverland."
