Zoe's POV

I paced back and forth impatiently as I glanced at the clock for the millionth time. It's been a whole 30 minutes now. Where the fuck is he?

Bill chuckled quietly. "Well, he's Michael's son, for sure. Fashionably late to every damn thing..."

I cut my eyes at him. "This isn't funny."

He snorted. "Calm down, he's gonna show up, alright? Have some faith in the man."

I sighed and shook my head. "He better show up. And when he does, I'm gonna kill him. I'm gonna fucking-"

"I'm here..." He panted, dashing into the room.

Bill threw me a wink. "See? Told you."

I rolled my eyes and threw my bag over my shoulder. "Let's go." I demanded, leaving the room.

Junior grabbed my arm and stopped me. "Wait, before we go-"

"I'm not waiting on your ass anymore, boy..."

"Mom, listen. I have to tell you something."

I took a deep breath to calm my nerves and glanced over at Bill. He shrugged. I turned back to Junior and gripped the bridge of my nose. "What is it, Junior?"

He shifted his eyes away from mine and gulped. "Please don't be mad at me..."

"Junior what the hell have you done-"

Just then, a young girl with bright red hair entered the room and stood behind Junior.

My jaw hit the floor.

Bill looked down at the ground and shook his head. "Oh lord..." He mumbled.

"Have you lost your fucking mind?!?" I shouted.

"Shhh, Mom, chill out...."

"No, don't tell me to chill out! What the hell are you thinking! This is not the time or place to introduce me to one of your little girlfriends! Take her home, now!"

She seemed slightly offended as her shy smile was replaced with furrowed brows and a crooked frown. "I am not one of his little girlfriends..." She scoffed.

I raised an eyebrow. "Did I ask you who you were?" I questioned before turning back to Junior. "You need to get rid of Miss Thing over here..." I said, shooting her an unpleasant look. "Before I do. What we're doing here is important and you can't just be bringing random ass people along!"

The girl's eyes widened. "Excuse me?"

I cocked my head to the side. "Yes, little girl, I'm talking about you."

Junior groaned and stepped in between us. "Mom, can you chill? This isn't a random person. She's related to Lisa."

I almost choked on my own breath. "What the hell? That's even worse! Lisa can't know about this-"

"Mom!" He yelled. "Please stop being so stubborn for one second, please?"

I wrinkled my eyebrows. Who does he think he's talking to? He must want to catch an elbow to the mouth.

"This," He began, placing a hand on the random girl's shoulder. "is Katie. She's a hacker."

I squinted my eyes. "A what?"

"A hacker. Like, she hacks computers."

Am I just old or is he speaking another language? "What in God's name does that mean and what does it have to do with the flight we're about to miss?"

He rolled his eyes. "It means she can breach any security system in the world with a few strokes of the keyboard. Any information we need, and I mean anything, she can pull it up in a matter of seconds."

I was still confused as to how any of this possessed him to bring her to my house.

Bill began to giggle and walked over to Junior, clapping him on the back. "You're a genius! You're Michael's son, that's for sure!"

I gave him a wild look as he shook the hand of the little girl who shouldn't even be here in the first place.

"Welcome to the team, Miss Katie. I'm Bill. We're pleased to have you joining us."

I gasped. "Joining us?! You two have you lost your goddamn minds! Katie, I'm sorry my stupid son confused you but you have got to go. Come on, I'll show you the way out...."

Junior snorted. "There's no point in kicking her out. She would get back in before you even made it back to the front door."

I shook my head in confusion. "What?"

"Mom..." He sighed, slapping a hand to his forehead. "For the love of God, will you listen? Katie can breach security systems. Did it ever cross your mind that where ever Dad is he's probably heavily guarded? How the hell are we going to get to him if there's gates and passwords and codes, huh? You think your smart mouth is going to be the solution?"

Katie let out a giggle but I shot her a look that made her shut right up.

Bill grabbed my arm and pulled me to the side. "Zoe, don't you realize how genius this is?" He whispered. "With this girl on our team, we're unstoppable. Besides, if we let the girl go with all of this information who knows what will happen. What if she goes to the media? Our best bet is to keep an eye on her and use her hacking skills. You understand?"

I smacked my lips together and yanked my arm out of his grip. "Fine..."

He grinned. "Good girl. See, cooperation isn't too hard, is it?" He teased, patting the top of my head.

I burned a hole into him with my eyes and smacked his hand away, walking back over to Junior and his little tag a long.

"Look, we don't have time to discuss this anymore. You can roll with us, Miss Thing..."

She and Junior exchanged accomplished smiles.

"But," I added, stepping so close to her that our noses were almost touching and speaking to her in a low hiss. "I don't trust you. You better watch yourself because if you fuck anything up, I swear to God I will-"

"Have a hissy fit, I get it..." She remarked, rolling her eyes.

Junior slapped his hand over his mouth to keep from laughing out loud and Bill was trying with all of his might to wipe the smile off of his face.

I narrowed my eyes at her before heading for the door, making sure to give her a good bump on my way out.

I don't know who this girl thinks she is, but I can tell that she's going to bring out the worst side of me before this whole thing is over.
