The moment Jungkook and Chaeng stepped into Westborough, they realized this was not going to be an easy day.
The district was alive with bustling energy, the air thick with the scent of cinnamon, burnt sugar, and something vaguely floral.
Shops lined the cobbled streets, each one glowing with magical enchantments-some had signs that hovered in midair, others had doors that sang when people entered, and one particularly bizarre shop had shoes tap-dancing in the window display.
"Alright," Chaeng sighed, gripping the stack of invitations tighter. "We just have to-"
She never finished.
A blur of movement slammed into her legs, nearly knocking her off balance. Jungkook instinctively reached out, grabbing her arm before she could stumble.
And then they both saw him-a small, scrappy-looking boy, no older than ten, grinning mischievously up at them.
Chaeng frowned. "What the-"
Before she could react, his tiny hands snatched one of the invitations from her grip.
Her eyes widened. "DID HE JUST-"
Jungkook blinked. "Well... technically, you were handing them out anyway."
Chaeng turned to him with the deadliest glare. "THAT IS NOT THE POINT."
The boy cackled and took off, weaving between people in the crowded street. Chaeng was about to chase after him, but suddenly-
BAM!
A woman dragging a floating cauldron nearly ran into her, sending the entire stack of invitations flying into the air.
"Oh, come on!" Chaeng threw her arms up in frustration. Papers fluttered down onto the cobblestone, some even getting swept away by the wind.
Jungkook looked at the mess and pressed his lips together, barely holding back a laugh.
"Oh yeah," he said. "This is going great."
Without hesitation, Chaeng smacked his arm.
They spent the next several minutes chasing down invitations, dodging enchanted objects, and trying to convince an old woman that no, they did not want a potion for 'Guaranteed True Love.'
They had enough of it.
By the time they gathered their stack again, a sweet aroma filled the air.
Jungkook turned his head, following the scent. "That smells good."
Chaeng barely glanced at him. "You're not thinking about food-"
Jungkook was already walking.
"JUNGKOOK-"
With no other choice, she followed him into a tiny bakery.
The moment they stepped inside, warmth wrapped around them like a cozy blanket. Shelves were lined with floating pastries, tarts that shimmered like stardust, and tiny cakes that changed colors every few seconds.
An elderly woman with round spectacles peered at them from behind the counter, her expression instantly brightening.
"Oh, welcome, dears! Would you like to try our famous Dreamberry Tarts? They ensure the most pleasant dreams for the night!"
Chaeng opened her mouth. "We're just-"
Jungkook shoved an entire tart into his mouth.
Chaeng stared at him in horror.
"Jungkook."
He chewed, eyes widening. "Oh wow."
Chaeng's soul left her body.
