Opening my eyes, I am scared to know what happened, scared to know how much times has passed this time. It was Thursday when I went to Aveus to meet up with Ms. Do'or and I remember passing out. I was probably taken to the infirmary and it got confirmed as I took a peek around the room I am currently in.
Seeing the nurses running around, I am getting ready for a usual scolding I get when I am brought in for exhaustion after training. One of the nurses notices me being awake and shifting on the bed, so she stops near me and asks about any discomfort or pain. I don't recognize her, but I answer her anyway. Then I look at the other women in here and I don't recognize them either. I take another good look of the room and realize everything is flipped, mirrored. Is this Aveus infirmary? Again, my suspicions are confirmed when I see Principal Idarin talking to a nurse. She tells him something and he immediately looks my direction, giving me a soft smile before slightly bowing to the nurse and then walking towards me.
At this point, I am so used to creating problems, I am not even scared of the scolding or punishment I will probably get. I sit up and wait for Principal Idarin subtract points or expel me finally.
Principal Idarin: Glad to see you awake, Ms. Holland. You gave us quiet a scare.
Me: What happened and how long have I been out?
Principal Idarin: Oh, don't worry. Today is Friday.
Me: Which Friday though?
Principal Idarin: March 4th.
It has been only a day this time. I exhale the breath I've been holding in and let my head drop back, making me stare at the ceiling. Principal Idarin places his warm wrinkly hands on top of mine and pats me few times.
The conversation with principal gets interrupted by a nurse coming over to hand me a tea cup with a steam escaping it. I take it from her hands and smell the familiar scent of an energizing tea I drink every time I got taken to the infirmary. Taking slow sips and blowing the hot tea between each one, I listen to Principal Idarin talk. He doesn't give me any details about the barrier and I don't ask. He is mostly concerned about my health and how insanely tired I am constantly.
I am enjoying the tea, which is giving me only a small amount of energy back, when we are joined by Ms. Do'or. I am happy to see her, but worried at the same time. Her work got probably interrupted because of me again. Same as Principal Idarin, she asks me about my state and if I feel any better. I give her the exact reply and let her talk to the principal.
Principal Idarin: Thank you, for agreeing to this, Shannie.
Ms. Do'or: No problem at all, Aldo. I like spending time with Kaitlin and we are already accustomed to living together.
Me: I am sorry for interrupting, but what do you mean by that?
Ms. Do'or turns her attention on me and gives me a warm smile, turning her eyes into thin lines. Principal Idarin lets her explain everything. He pats Ms. Do'or on her shoulder twice, thanks her again and leaves the two of us alone to talk.
Ms. Do'or: The doctors and even the council examined you after you passed out yesterday. The result was the same as from the Umbras doctor. Your magic is for some reason unstable and it's draining your body. Professor Minertha suggested you take a break from the academy and the council agreed.
Me: I took multiple breaks, but just resting and sleeping is not helping.
Ms. Do'or: With break from the academy, they meant it as in leaving Umbras completely. I offered to take you in for the time being.
