It took all of my willpower to get out of bed. Today I feel the worst of all days. Almost everything I smelled or saw made me nauseous, so I ended up buying a plain butter croissant with green tea. The girls looked worried about the amount of food I plan to survive on today, but didn't say anything. Despite having only one piece of food, I had to eat it by tearing off small pieces, then fight the nausea, so I finished eating last.
I trailed behind the girls, barely lifting my legs and shuffled with my feet. Immediately as we arrived to the door, Ms. Edite turned us around, saying the arena is closed off. I understood why we aren't able to use The Pit, but the whole place? When we asked about it, she explained the ruined obstacles like we haven't seen it, or be the cause of it. Then she added how the strong storm flooded the field and it's not usable, so the classes will take place in the combat grounds until they fix everything.
Another group of students was coming as we were on our way to the grounds. Ms. Edite recited the same words with a stoic voice, like a robot. The students started celebrating that Trials are basically cancelled. I can't share their sentiment, because I wanted to slack off and enjoy some fresh air, but now we will be stuck in that but stuffy gym.
Besides Saxa, I am now worried about Professor Radock. He is in charge of our year and keeps his eyes glued on me, waiting until I use my powers. We were supposed to train balance, but he asked for our group to be swapped for holograms instead. I am tired as it is and now I have to be twice vigilant to not get hit by Saxa on "accident", and also to not do anything that would reveal the truth about me to Professor Radock.
Taking my time with the warm up, I let everyone make a line for the holograms. Professor Radock urged us all to be fast, but I know it was directed mostly at me. I still chose the back of the line on purpose.
There are only only a few people with active powers so it will be my turn soon. Reilly kept me company and stood next to me in the line, even though Professor Radock ordered her to go practice elsewhere. After another reprimand from the professor Reilly told him that she will also try the holograms. He wanted to protest but Reilly swiftly grabbed her swords, cut the line and also the projection that was meant for the student who is currently training. With a raised eyebrow, Reilly tilts her head at the professor and he only waves with his hand, allowing Reilly to stay.
When Reilly returned to my spot, I nagged at her, asked if she has a deathwish for not listening to our attending professor, but she only shrugger her shoulders. Not caring about her score or academy points being deducted, Reilly keeps twisting and flipping her sword so that her muscles don't fall asleep. I should do the same, but all the energy I have, I am currently using to keep standing up.
Reilly gained me some time since she offered to go before me and is occupying both lanes of the hologram. I am crouching in a safe distance from the podium, gulping the whole bottle of the energy tea I made this morning while watching Reilly cut and destroy multiple projections coming at her at once. She would keep doing it if only Professor Radock hadn't lost his patience and turned off the holograms. He asked her to make space for other students, trying to force a polite voice, but I could sense his frustrastion. The professor started to explain how everyone should get their training time and it's not fair to hover the fields like this.
We couldn't argue anymore or come up with some other smart attempt how to get me out of this. Reilly left the hologram arena and I took her place. Without even giving me heads up, Professor Radock starts the machine and projections run at me. It's definitely a higher difficulty than before and I give the professor a look, but he excuses it by telling me that with my powers I should be able to do it.
I duck under the first attack. The second one comes immediately after and my upper arm gets slashed. There is no wound, no blood. Only a stinging pain rushes through me and I yell out. It felt like something hot cut me. Checking my arm, it's a little bit red but uninjured and as I am staring at it, Professor Radock is explaining how the wounds are not real, only configurated to feel like a true injury. Then he orders me to get up and continue.
