I sighed, swirling the liquid in my cup before taking a slow sip. The coolness of the drink did nothing to ease the heat of frustration burning inside me. My eyes flickered back to Ava, who was laughing as she splashed Robin, completely in her own little world.
It had been two weeks.
Two whole weeks since I last heard Onika's voice. At first, I thought she just needed a little time, but now? Now, I wasn't so sure.
A part of me was starting to believe she was done with me.
I shook my head, trying to push the thought away, but it stayed stuck in my mind like a splinter. I couldn't blame her for being mad at me. I knew I messed up.
The way I acted after my fight with Fury, lashing out, pushing her away wasn't fair. I was caught up in my own emotions, drowning in my own anger, and instead of leaning on her.
I didn't mean any of it.
But that didn't change the fact that I said it.
I sighed, setting my drink down beside me and rubbing my hand over my face. If she really was done with me... I didn't know what the hell I was supposed to do next.
"You okay?" Robin's voice pulled me from my thoughts.
I glanced up as she walked over, water dripping from her as she squeezed the ends of her hair out. Ava had already swam off to the other side of the pool.
I shrugged. "Not really."
Robin sat down beside me, dipping her feet into the water. "Still no word from her?"
I shook my head. "Nothing. I don't even know what to think anymore."
She exhaled, shaking her head. "I hate seeing you like this. But she shouldn't have left you like this."
I clenched my jaw, looking straight ahead instead of at her. "You don't get it."
"No, I do get it," she insisted. "You care about her, and yeah, maybe you messed up. But two weeks of silence?"
I didn't say anything.
Robin sighed, bumping my shoulder lightly. "You know I wouldn't leave you."
I shook my head slightly as I felt Robin's fingers gliding through my short curls—the ones I had been growing out.
"Seriously, Aubrey, you need to get out of this little funk you're in," she said, her voice soft. I felt her shift beside me, trying to meet my eyes. "Nobody likes seeing you like this."
