Days had passed since Clare had woken up. Instead of going outside, Clare spent her days inside, either cooking, reading, or cleaning the house. Today however, was different. Clare wasn't allowed in the house because melody was babysitting one of her friends kids, and she didn't want clare in the house.
"But why?" Clare wined as melody pushed her out the door. Melody sighed. "Because you might scare the kids." She replied, a hint of sarcasm in her voice, as she shut and locked the door in Clare's face.
Clare sighed and shook her head as she kicked the dirt up. "I don't scare kids." She muttered to herself as she walked through the village. Without paying attention, Clare felt herself bump into something before falling back. "Hey! Watch where you're going." She growled as she stood up.
Clare looked up to see who she had run into. In front of her stood a rather tall boy, who looked to be older than Clare, but no older than nineteen. He had black hair and brown eyes. His hair was a bit long in the front, almost covering his eyes, and a bit shorter in the back.
The boy looked down at Clare, lost in thought, until a look of recognition briefly flashed across his features. "You're the one that ran into me, so you the one who should watch where they're going, Clare."
Clare looked up at the boy in shock. "How the hell do you know my name? Who are you?" She asked, quickly recovering from her shock.
The boy chuckled and shook his head. "Aww, you've really forgotten about me already?" He replied with a smirk.
Taking a closer look at him, Clare gasped. "No way......" She muttered in disbelief. "Thats not really you Kuzul, is it?"
The boy, now known as Kuzul smiled confidently. "The one and only."
Clare sighed and shook her head. "Yep, its you. After all, I don't know anyone as annoyingly cocky as you."
Kuzul faked a hurt expression. "Aww now thats just mean. You know you missed me."
Clare giggled. "You're so stupid Kuzul." She muttered.
Kuzul simply shrugged at her comment. "So anyway, what are you doing here? where's your brother?" He asked curiously.
Clare's smile disappeared. "He's gone Kuzul. everyone.......all of the villagers from my village.....they're all dead." She replied quietly.
Kuzul stared down at clare, a look of shock on his face. "What? What happened?" He asked, his voice quiet and filled with disbelief.
After a brief moment of silence, Clare replied. "It was chaos. Buildings were burning down, and people were running around in panic. Most were slaughtered, but some couldn't get out of their homes and died in the fire." Clare shook her head, and forced a smiled on her face. "But, enough with the sad stuff. Im fine. It's in the past."
Kuzul shook his head. No one can be ok after losing so much. He knew how much clare loved her brother and the people in her village, and he understood how hard this must be for her, but he wasn't going to talk about it anymore.
"Anyway." Clare said, snapping Kuzul from his thoughts. "I've never been here, and I don't know much about this place, let alone where I'm going. So, would you mind showing me around the village?"
Kuzul nodded and shrugged. "Sure, Why not?" He replied with a friendly smile
Clare smiled as she walked around the village for the rest of the day with Kuzul. Learning about its history, and seeing all the kids happily running around definitely lifted her spirits a bit.
