Emily was asleep in her bed, her crutches off to its side.
She suddenly felt herself being shaken and opened her eyes.
"Clyde? What are you doing here?! It's 2 in the morning!"
"You'll get used to it." Clyde said.
"So breaking into people's rooms in the middle of the night is normal here?" Emily asked.
"Yes."
"Okay. Taking note of that. Why are you here?"
"I want to talk to you."
"And it couldn't have waited until morning?"
"No." Clyde responded. "Look, I'm happy that you're happy with Kyle, but...I kind of liked you, too. Me and him were kind of...fighting over you."
Emily was stunned and kind of honored. The only reason people had ever fought over her before was because they all wanted to be the first to hurt her.
"Clyde, I was really close to picking you!" Emily said. "It's just that I happened to get stuck at Kyle's during the snowstorm and we really got to bond over those few days."
"I get it." Clyde said. "We'll still be friends?"
"Oh, more than that." Emily said. "I think we'll be best friends."
Emily gave Clyde a small kiss on the cheek. Clyde blushed.
"Well, we have school tomorrow. You should probably get going." Emily said.
"Good point. See you tomorrow!"
"Bye!"
Emily woke up at her usual time and began getting dressed for school. She got her crutches and saw Danny in the hallway. He and Ian had spent the last night at a friend's house, so he didn't know about Emily being on crutches.
"Em, what happened?!" Danny asked. Even if he and Ian picked on her all the time, Emily knew that they really loved her.
"A kid beat me up at school yesterday." Emily said
"Who was it? Where do they live? I'm going to kick their ass!"
It's times like this that I remember that he really does care about me.
"I don't really know where he lives, but I'm sure my friends do. After school, okay?" Emily said.
"All right. Come here, Em." Danny said.
Emily was confused. Suddenly, Danny picked her up and began carrying her down the stairs. She giggled as he set her down in the kitchen.
"What's so funny?" Danny asked.
"You left my crutches upstairs, dummy." Emily giggled.
"Crap."
Danny ran back upstairs to get Emily's crutches, as she sat down.
She came in on her crutches, most kids asking her about it. The only kids who said nothing were the ones that knew about it: Kyle, Clyde, and Cartman.
But for the most part, she had an okay day.
Right before the last bell rang, Emily remembered something she had meant to ask.
"Hey, Kyle?" she asked.
"Yeah?"
"You know where Cartman lives, right?" she asked.
"Yeah, why?"
"Could you show me his house?"
"What are you planning?" Kyle asked, suspicious.
Wow. Only James sees through me that quickly.
Emily sighed. "My brothers weren't around after school yesterday, and they wanted to know who beat me up so that they could give whoever did it a beating."
Kyle's eyes widened, and he smirked.
"In that case..."
Emily, Danny, Ian, and Kyle walked down to Cartman's house and rang the doorbell.
"Meeam, get the door!" a voice, undoubtedly Cartman's, shouted from inside.
The door opened, and there stood Mrs. Cartman.
"Hello." She said. "May I help you?"
Danny took the lead. He was always the more outgoing and charismastic of Emily's siblings.
"Hello. We've heard that your son gave a beating to my sister yesterday." Danny explained.
"Is she your sister?" Mrs. Cartman asked, pointing to Emily.
"Yes." Danny answered. "Were you aware of this?"
"Yes, the school contacted me yesterday. Sadly, Eric has always been...violent. I've already grounded him, but it isn't doing much."
She leaned down and whispered, "You're very lucky he didn't kill your parents and ground them into chili."
HE'S DONE THAT BEFORE?!, Emily thought to herself.
Maybe giving Cartman a well-deserved beating would do more harm than good.
