"Cry, did I not tell you to take it easy on that leg?!" Wilson demanded as I hobbled back down the stairs. I snorted at him, handing him several plates of metal and more gunpowder. I grunted, shifting myself to get behind the counter and heating up the fire. "You're going to injure it further, and how are you supposed to go see your lover if that happens?"
"Wilson!" I snapped, seeing that other people were within hearing distance. Luckily, none of the other soldiers waiting caught it, and they left as Wilson returned to them their weapons, repaired and restocked. Wilson gave me a sidelong glance as I picked up the mold for a gun, placing it on a small rack over the fire and letting it sit there to melt the metal inside into the proper shape.
"Cry, what are you doing?" he demanded. "Do we need more guns?"
"If M is stupid enough to come after us then I think we should be well prepared." I retorted, returning to putting the gunpowder in its proper place. Wilson shook his head, sighing, unable to disagree with my logic.
"He put a lot of men in the infirmary, that's for sure." Wilson muttered. "That man has no shame, and no interest in rules. I can't believe that he would try to attack us. Its well known that we have more active soldiers than any other gang in the city, he must be out for vengeance." I stiffened, realizing that Wilson had not been informed on the reasoning behind that attack.
"They found out that we had been stealing their gunpowder." I told him, watching the flames burn behind the counter that I sat myself atop of. Wilson looked up abruptly. "They found out, and he was pissed off enough to come after us."
"What? How the hell would he have found out about something like that?" Wilson demanded, and his next words made my teeth clench. "It wasn't that Pewdie guy, was it? I was told that he caught you guys and promised to be quiet, but you can never be sure.."
"Trust me when I say that it wasn't him." I spat out, and Wilson only shook his head.
"What other explanation is there?"
"I don't know, but there is one." I hissed. "He told me that it wasn't him, I'm going to believe him. There was another factor in play that we don't know about, and I'm going to find out what it was." Wilson sighed, unable to argue once more. I swallowed again, shaking my head. "He sent the assassin after you, too." I said, and Wilson chuckled darkly.
"And you restrained yourself from murdering him?" he asked, sounding surprised. "I'm impressed."
"Oh no, I didn't kill him." I stated flatly. "I just broke his nose, several parts of his foot, and made him bleed profusely in several different locations." Wilson laughed at this, holding his stomach and squeezing his eyes shut.
"Ah, there we go. That sounds a bit more like you." I shrugged, and Wilson sighed. "That's good. There's been enough death outside of that random assassin and Lee. We needn't anymore." I thought back to the burial ceremony we had with Lee, and I remember it vividly. Those who could walk outside to see helped those who couldn't, and we all waited and said words of gratitude to Lee, and put him in the ground. It was always something sad when we lost a member of the gang, of the family, and everyone remembered him for years to come. I sighed, nodding my head in agreement. With luck this fighting would be over soon.
"Hopefully M has learned his place and will stay there. I don't want to fight him again, because if I have to see one more of my soldiers get hurt because of him, I will kill him." I said darkly, staring angrily into the fireplace and spitting at it. Wilson said nothing, only glanced up at me curiously.
"Are you going to see Pewdiepie tonight?" he asked, and I frowned. It was a sort of random question, but I nodded all the same. He gave a curt nod. "Good, because that man seems to be keeping you under control. You're not as angry upon return, he seems to smooth over your roughness." I stopped to think about this, but Wilson carried on. "Have you figured out why he's here yet? Or have you been too busy doing other things?" I felt my cheeks heat up at what he just suggested, and I snorted, trying to hide it the best that I could.
"We haven't been doing anything else!" I told him, removing the melted metal from the fireplace with a pair of tongs and setting it on the nearby cooling rack to harder. "And no, I haven't gotten around to it. Our visits have been so scarce lately. When I see him, I just want to be around him, I'd rather not bring up something that he doesn't want to talk about."
"That's a real shame." Wilson said, heading towards the door as dinner was called. He turned to me at the doorway, smiling sadly. "You might need to know of his plans now more than ever."
His ominous words echoed in my ears as I turned back to the gun.
...
"Cry!" Felix said, and I looked up, seeing for the first time ever that he had beaten me to the tree. I grinned as he ran up to me, throwing his arms around my neck and hugging me tightly, breath hitting my neck. I removed my mask, smirking as he looked me up and down. "It's been a day but it feels like years," he breathed, and I nodded. He looked a bit somber, and I placed a finger under his chin, pulling him closer.
"Something wrong?" I murmured against his lips, moving mine down to plant a kiss on his throat. He sighed shakily.
"Its Michael," he admitted, and I stiffened. For the few moments that I shared with Felix alone, cuddling, kissing, just being with him, I forgot everything. My responsibilities as a leader were invisible, I was simply a man in love and spending time with the lover, holding him close. The mention of M reminded me that it wasn't all peaceful and loving like I saw things now. "A few members wanted to go outside, leave the city, they were afraid that Michael was going to go charging back into fighting and they didn't want any part of it. Michael grew angry quickly." Felix's voice dropped to a whisper, and his eyes were wide and brimming with memories. "If his Second hadn't taken control of the situation, I feel like he would have executed them on the spot. They stayed, as it was against the rules to leave, but the Second gave them another chance, and Michael was taken up to his room. I feel-.." Felix swallowed roughly. "I feel like he's going insane. Like he's lost a lot and there's a lot of tension everywhere after Groupings were no longer in session. I'm afraid of what he's going to do to the gang. To me even, he hates me, everyone else made sure of that and I enforced it." I clenched my teeth.
"I won't let him hurt you." I said firmly, and Felix glanced up at me.
"Cry, I know that we are a thing now, and -."
"We are?" I asked, joyfully surprised that he said this and he blushed, nodding. I grinned.
"I know this, its not hard to tell after all that's happened, and I'm grateful, but some things you cannot protect me from. You won't know if something goes wrong, I'm on my own over there." Felix explained, and I merely kissed his forehead.
"I won't let a single thing happen to you." I told him again. "I'll storm that building with all of hell on my heels, and goddammit if I have to kill him to get you out, I will." Felix looked both fearful and relieved, and I sighed, knowing I needn't scare him. "If something does go wrong when I'm not around, try to fall back to my HQ, okay? No one will shoot you on sight, and I'll be alerted before anyone makes any choices, I'll protect you." I promised, and Felix looked up at me with a slight grin.
"Okay, I'll hold you to that," he whispered, placing a hand on my cheek and pulling me in for another kiss. I grabbed his face softly with my hands, wanted to be near him and hold him to me.
"I can't be out for long, unfortunately." I murmured against his lips, pulling at his lower one. "I do have duties at home still and I'm exhausted." Felix smiled, sitting on the ground and beckoning me to him. I laid my head on his lap and he ran his fingers through my hair, tugging softly. "You're going to make me fall asleep." I mumbled, and Felix only giggled.
"What time do you need to be up, Mr. Cry?" he asked, and I smirked, eyes closed and enjoying the feeling of the blonde massaging my head.
"Just in a couple hours, but I want to spend them with you." I was too tired to not slur my words, and Felix only giggled more, hushing me. I drifted off to sleep, rather quickly, only feeling Felix next to me and forgetting all the rest that this world was throwing at me in that moment.
It was a nice change for once.
