"C'mon, Cry! This way!" I could hear Pewds' voice, and I looked up from my whittling in the trees. He stood below me, waving me to follow him. Curious, I left behind my project and slipped from my branch, landing on the ground.
"Pewds?"
"C'mon, bro!" Pewds said, grinning brightly at me. It was hard to say no to him, and so I tagged along as he walked away. Apparently it wasn't fast enough for him, and he grabbed my hand. Blush creeped up my face, and I wasn't sure why I was suddenly so sheepish about being around him. "C'mon!" Whatever he was going to show me, he was dying for me to see it. Our fingers intertwined, and I inhaled rather sharply. What in the actual hell was going on here?
"Pewds-?" I began again, but he turned abruptly, placing a single finger on my lips and hushing me. He placed a finger under my chin, tilting my head towards him.
"You'll be quiet about this, right?" he winked, and turned, dragging me behind him. That was MY thing that I did when I demanded his attention. I did that to make HIM feel out of place, to see HIM blush. He didn't get to do that to me! Yet, I remained quiet and questioned nothing as he dragged me through the city. I knew that we were far from my territory, or M's even. He led me deeper into another gang's turf, but he didn't seem to be bothered by it. He led me up a rather tall building, counting the steps out loud like a small child trying to bypass boredom.
Once we reached the top, we could see out over every part of the city. The stars above us shone, and the cosmos suddenly seemed clearer on this night than any other. Some of the lights in the buildings were still on, and the city itself was glorious. For once, in this moment that seemed to be paused in time, all seemed peaceful. Everything would be okay.
"I just wanted to share this moment with you." Pewds said, and I turned to look at him. His grin was sheepish, but also broad and proud. "I'd not want anyone else to be here but you." His hand took hold of my chin, and I gasped as he brought me closer. He was usually more reserved than this, when did he become so confident? The last thing I remembered was his blue eyes, lips brushing my own, and the silence of the city in the background..
I shot into a sitting position, sweat beads rolling down my face, neck, and bare torso. My hair was a complete mess, and I fell like I had run a marathon rather than slept. I whipped my head around, finding myself sitting alone on my bed in my room. I looked outside, and found the sun was already high in the sky.
Shit.
I threw myself out of bed, reaching for a shirt and pulling it over my person, followed by my vest. I grabbed my handgun off my nightstand, slipping it into its holster at my side and fighting to pull my stupid boots on as fast as I could while trying to pull my mask on. Sprinting into the elevator, I attempted to tame my hair and found it useless, running my hands through it violently and ignoring it instead. Once I reached the lobby, I looked to find that it was practically empty, as everyone had been sent out. Silently thanking Matt for still doing his job, I made my way down to the basement to see Wilson instead.
"Why did no one wake me?!" I demanded upon entry. Wilson looked up from his position at the bar, two soldiers with a gun on the counter turning as well. Wilson muttered something under his breath, and the pair nodded and quickly left as I stormed down the stairs towards him. He placed the gun off to the side as I angrily sat at the bar. He quickly poured me a glass of water which I took to drinking, and he shook his head.
"Anyone could see that you were dog-tired, Cry," he said, absently cleaning another jar out for powder. "Your excursions to go see Pewdiepie are exhausting you." I nearly spit all my water back out onto the old man, but turned just in time to instead spit it onto the ground. I gaped at him, and he grinned. "What, did you think I didn't know? I was very well aware." Curling my lip, trying not to let him get to me, I sniffed.
