Hey guys! Wow, what a journey this story has been, am I right? I loved this book so very much. It was a mere idea, and it finally evolved into something I was equally upset about ending and happy that I created it. To see that you guys enjoyed it as well touched my heart. So this is just kind of a thought process now of how I wrote what I did, and what I found important throughout the book. I always enjoy making these, because I like to connect more with the people who read, and they can see what I write, how I write it, etc. Also, a lot of interesting things occurred during my writing process, and I like to explain them.
But first, I do want to thank you all! This book meant so much to me, and it was the first work that I started on that I sat back and put a lot of thought into. I wanted people to read it, and see what I saw in my head. It made some of the chapters lengthy via my efforts to describe things, but it was also so cool to see how people thought about things that I never even considered.
Anyway, how cool is this? When I started the plot for this book, because I usually try to get a decent amount of plot done before writing, I wrote the entire plot for this book in 2 days. All 37 chapters were thought up in 2 days only, and then I began writing it. Most plots take me over a few weeks to get thought out completely, and there I was busting it out in two days. I knew that this book was going to be good, and I'm oh-so glad that you all enjoyed it as well. It makes it worth writing. I managed to finish this book in just under three or four weeks, completing it and sighing in relief as I began to upload it; it gave me more time to write other things! (I'm such a workaholic..) It was crazy to cram a whole story of such length in that time period, just as crazy as it sounds, but it was fun and totally worth it.
MAIN POINTS: and some things you all might be angry with me about xD
- So first of all, I know that it took about 20 chapters, half the story, for Felix and Cry to be a thing, and maybe I elongated too much, but I wanted to kind of stress the importance of how a relationship builds, and the time it takes. Even so, it felt a bit rushed, but I was proud of that.
- Cry's shooting the other guy in the Grouping Building: I know, I know, awful right? How dare Cry do something like this when he had a level head otherwise? But I do have my reasons, try to understand. The Wilson character was the only family that Cry had, the only tie to sanity and love he had (before Felix of course) and he nearly watched that man get ripped away from him much like his mother because of Cry's envious adversary. Instead, he acted in rage, unable to contain it. It would be like losing a family member, and then watching another family member almost die in front of you. It would be upsetting, so I felt it necessary to add that part in. Plus, plot development.
- Cry's Leaving the City vs Fighting For It: I felt like this needed to be mentioned as well. I know that I made the Cry character appear in a certain way that would imply the last thing he would do was abandon what he loved. And on top of Felix's need to be outside and plot development falling perfectly with this, I had another reason as well. I put myself in a scenario like this mentally, and when you weigh out the odds like that, even as an uphill battle, if someone really intended to murder an entire city of people, they would defend that bomb with their lives to do so. It would be terrifying, and so I just couldn't bring myself to write it. Plus, plot development.
- Cry's Mask: I feel like I might not have mentioned this one enough, so here it is. Cry's mask is meant to be a symbol of shame. He was blamed for his mother's death by his father, despite being so young, and was forced to wear it around when he wasn't good enough whether that was fighting, shooting, anything. Eventually, Cry's father simply made him wear it, and after Cry fought off his father and his father's little tribe singlehandedly, the mask was recognized as a symbol of strength, and courage. The reason I get rid of it completely in the end was to symbolize that Cry was no longer held down by such ties from the City. He is free from all these memories as the city falls, and can lead a new life on his own, make his own decisions.
[Let me know if there's anything else you are curious about! I'd love to answer :)]
Also, a list of songs that helped me out during the writing, just thought that I would share:
- I'd Love to Rule the World - Jetta (Matstubs Remix)
- Dollar Sines - KRNE
- Beside You - Phidel
- Battle Cry - Imagine Dragons
- Save Me - Shinedown
You guys who have supported me are also amazing. I love you all so much, because this book had a lot of weight to me, a lot of meaning, and here you all were enjoying it, and that means something more than I can describe with feeble words. Maybe it will be one of those stories that you like so much you go back and reread it every once in awhile. That would be amazing! Either way, I'm grateful for all of you who found this from the start, but I'm also grateful to all of you who joined along the way, or maybe just found it today, who knows? If you enjoy the story, that's all that matters to me! So here's to another story down, and another one to be written in the future!
