Sal sat on a bench, looking out at the pond. The air was humid... Not just humid, thick, almost suffocating. He wasn't sure if it was from how nervous he was or from the hot air.
It was night time, 2 in the morning to be exact. He wasn't sure why Travis had asked to meet him so late but he did know one thing. He wanted— no needed to tell him today. If he didn't he knew he would never get another chance.
It was a peaceful scene.
The flowers floated gently across the pond, their colors faintly glowing under the soft light of lanterns hanging from a bridge overhead. Tall trees surrounded the scene, their branches heavy with blossoms on the verge of fading as spring reached its end. The air was filled with a peaceful serenity...
You can only imagine how stunning this place must be in daylight...
crunch
Sal stood in front of Travis, his heart pounding. He had practiced for this moment—over and over. He just wanted Travis to understand how much he cared.
Taking a deep breath, he raised his hands.
"I love you, Travis."
Travis stared at him blankly. Then, slowly, a small smile formed on his lips.
"Maybe you do care, Sal," he said.
Sal's eyes widened. His mind scrambled to process what he just heard. Travis could speak now? How?
"Don't just stand there like an idiot," Travis added.
Snapping out of his shock, Sal straightened up and cleared his throat.
"Travis, I don't know how many times I've said it, but I really do love you! And I can't stop saying it. I didn't mean what I said before—I was just scared. I didn't want to fuck things up, but I still did. I'm really sorry, Travis. I don't know if you'll ever forgive me, but please... I promise I can be better to you. I just really fucking love you!"
The words tumbled out, raw and desperate. It didn't even sound like him, but nerves had taken over. When he finally looked up, Travis was still staring. His expression was unreadable.
Is this how people see me? Sal thought. Fuck.
But then, he looked closer. There was something there—hesitation, uncertainty.
I might still have a chance.
Travis opened his mouth as if to speak, but then stopped. Instead, he took a step closer. Sal's breath caught. The moment felt too familiar, but this time, he didn't back away. He was ready for whatever was about to happen.
Travis stopped just inches away, his gaze locked onto Sal's. Sal was grateful, for once, that his prosthetic could hide his expression. At least Travis couldn't see how terrified he was.
"Travis?" Sal asked cautiously.
No response.
The silence stretched between them, suffocating.
Sal felt his stomach drop. His instincts screamed at him to move, and despite himself, he took a small step back.
Then suddenly, the space between them was nonexistent.
Travis had closed the distance in a heartbeat, his movements deliberate yet hesitant, as if he was afraid Sal might disappear if he wasn't careful. His hand found the back of Sal's head, fingers threading through the strands of his hair, grounding him. His touch was warm, firm.
Sal barely had time to react before he felt Travis's other hand lift, fingers brushing against the cold surface of his mask. His breath hitched.
Travis hesitated, his eyes flickering up to meet Sal's. They were filled with unspoken concern, longing, uncertainty. It was a silent question, and for the first time in a long time, Sal didn't feel the urge to run.
He gave the smallest nod.
Slowly, carefully, Travis lifted the mask. The air against Sal's skin felt foreign, too exposed, too vulnerable, but Travis didn't flinch. His gaze remained steady, unwavering.
"You don't have to hide from me," Travis murmured, voice softer than Sal had ever heard it.
Sal swallowed hard, heart pounding against his ribs. He wasn't sure what to say, wasn't sure if he could say anything at all. But then, before he could overthink it, before he could let his fears win. Travis closed the remaining space between them.
His lips pressed against Sal's, hesitant at first, like he was testing the waters, waiting to see if Sal would pull away. But Sal didn't. He couldn't. Instead, he melted into the kiss, hands gripping onto Travis's hoodie as if letting go wasn't an option.
Travis deepened the kiss, his hand sliding from Sal's hair to the side of his face, thumb brushing over his skin so gently it sent a shiver down his spine. It was overwhelming; the warmth, the closeness, the way Travis kissed him like he meant it, it was nothing like the time before...
When they finally broke apart, breathless, Travis rested his forehead against Sal's.
"Sal," he whispered, his voice barely above a breath. "I forgive you."
Sal squeezed his eyes shut, swallowing the lump in his throat. He didn't deserve it. He didn't deserve Travis. But god, he wanted this... wanted him.
So, instead of answering, he just pulled Travis back in, kissing him again, hoping it was enough to say everything he couldn't put into words
AHHHHHH SOMEONE PUT ME IN AN ASYLUM IM GOING CRAZY WHY DID I MAKE A HAPPY ENDING KMS KMS KMS KMS KMS KMS

also note, i wrote this when i was like 13-14 and i'm 17 now 💀 took me like 3 years to make a happy ending. But i only made this because i think i'm done with Salvis fanfics, so i thought maybe this was a good way to end where it started, i definitely have other works in the making right now if you want to check them out, mainly from Haikyuu and soon i should have a soukoku fic coming out.
But honestly i've gotten so many requests for a nice good and happy ending and while ihave NOOO idea what happened in the past few chapters considering it's been years, i decided it was finally time
