Chapter 5

Today was the day. As anxious as I am, I'm excited to meet the kids and see who looks more like their father, who's the nicest, who's the trouble maker, so on and so forth.

Today was the day, the kids decide weather they like me, hate me, or tolerate me.

I set my alarm early enough to have time to shower and get ready. The parents left for work early and left the kids in bed to sleep. Lans informed me that the kids usually wake up at 9, sometimes later so to be safe, I have to be at the house at 8. With that information, I was ready by 7:30 and just in time for Travis to pick me up. Once in the car, I plugged in my headphones instead of asking for the aux cord.

I've been here for more than 30 minutes and not one kid has came down those stairs. Tick tock. Can someone please wake up?

As if on que, I heard footsteps coming from the main staircase. Abruptly, I stood up from the comfy couch and waited in the family room for someone to pop up.

A little girl. I'm guessing this is the youngest out of the bunch. She was pretty and still looked sleepy in her princess pajamas. She stood there in the entrance, rubbing one eye, while looking at me.

"Hi." I said in the calmest and quiets way I could. She was hesitant but within seconds she gave me a slight wave.

"Where's mommy and daddy?"

"They're at work, but don't worry I'm here to take care of you and your siblings." Oh god, I never noticed how much my voice change when talking to little kids. It was like a whole other tone.

"Dan is upstairs using the potty." Oh my, I don't think I've ever heard an actually kid say "potty" can she get more adorable?

Right as those words left her lips, rushing footsteps came down the stairs. In came a running boy, with what looked like a DS in his hand.

"Danielle, what's my Mario gam— oh, who's this?" He stood right next to Danielle, looking me up and down. Wow, interrogating much?

"She's the girl who's watching us while mommy and daddy are at work." She whispered, not very quietly though. Also considering they're less than 5 ft away, I heard every word.

"Oh." He dragged on, also in a whisper I can still hear perfectly. As they both stood beside each other, I realized something. Where's the third kid?

"You must be Dave?"

"No, that's my older brother. . . I'm Dan, the cooler one." Wow, these kids are amazing. Without noticing, I let out a small laugh and rolled my eyes playfully.

"Well nice to meet you, cooler Dan."

"You too....?"

"Jennifer, Jenny for short."

"You're really pretty" the youngest, Danielle sang. Yes, she sang and it was truly the cutest thing ever.

Maybe this won't be so hard after all.

Okay, I'm now convinced I'm being paid to watch two kids because the third one has yet to show his face.

Danielle was laid out on the couch, had just finished eating chocolate milk cereal and is now watching Disney channel. Dan on the other hand, was too busy glued to his DS to notice anything around him. I practically had to force the device out his hand so he can eat.
