Chapter 14

Travis was taking me home like usual. On his way there, we drove up to a red light. After stopping the car, he leaned back to his seat.

"I see your loving car is fixed." I mocked.

He smirk over at me. "I'm loving it."

I trace my finger on top of the glove compartment and see it's clean.

"Wow, you even gave it a little clean."

"Yeah, I cleaned it yesterday," he said rather proudly.

We sit in silence waiting for the light to turn green. Its torture not listening to music but he put this new rule, that says I can't use the aux cord anymore because my 'performances' were distracting and dangerous. Whatever that means...

"Hey, how much do you get paid?" I blurted. Just thinking about the envelope in my bag and how thick it is, I can just imagine how much is in there, "-just asking, cause I just got paid and I feel like it's way more than I've ever gotten paid before."

I hear him laugh a little. He sits up again seeing as the light was now green and starts driving.

"Well that is true. You will be paid more but, I got a raise about two years ago. Before my raise I was paid.... 30,000 I think?"

My jaw dropped. What? And that's before the raise, I don't even wanna know what he's getting paid now. . . Even though I just asked.

"So that's why you put up with him?" I teased, putting the pieces together. Travis has told me stories while he drives me to places, about how Lans used to have his 'moments' back then.

And how Lans and Martha used to argue every night for weeks when Danielle was only 2.

When I asked Travis what happened he said he didn't know but he always told himself that married couples always have they're stages.

The honeymoon stage.

The arguing stage.

The making-up stage

and since this century is so caught up on divorcing, theres always that a possibility that there could be a divorcing stage. He said they ended up getting over it and went back to their normal selves again, but things were always slightly off after that.

"I mean if he pays well, he can beat me for all I care." Travis joked.

"Well with all the tea you're spilling right now, I bet he will," I joked while looking through twitter.

"Well I trust you won't tattle-tale."

"Really? Tattle-tale? Who says that anymore?" I asked looking up from my phone.

"What? don't you kids still say that?"

My mouth makes a 'O' shape with him calling me a kid. I am a young-adult, I pasted that kid stage... YEARS AGO! I smacked his chest which didn't affect him physically, but he did laugh.

"I am not a kid.... You're just old," I shrug at the last part and look back down at my phone.

"Oh please, I'm younger than Lans."

"BY A YEAR!" I shouted out while laughing.

"Hey, I take pride in that year." he said pointing at me all serious.

Me and my mom stared at the envelope. When I told her I got paid she was happy for me but when she saw the envelope she started second guessing.... I kinda forgot to tell her I was babysitting a rich guys kids...
