✯Serena's Pov ✯
Year 133 A.C
Westeros
Red Keep, King's Landing
Serena stared at the young king for a few seconds, weighing whether she ought to leave for another balcony or simply ignore him and stay silent. But she didn't pick either of those options.
Her gaze drifted over his attire, simple, but unmistakably regal, always in shades of black. She realized she'd never seen him wear anything else. No colors, no sigils, nothing to soften the dark severity of his image.
He had his reasons, of course...
Still, it struck her then how fate, that cursed, meddling thing, seemed to always steer them into crossing paths when neither of them expected it. It was almost laughable at this point.
She bit the inside of her cheek, a small, amused smile tugging at the corner of her lips as she caught the faraway look in his eyes. Even though the low light and distance between them made it hard to read his face, there was no mistaking that vague, absent expression.
Deciding to break the silence, and maybe rattle him a little.
"I see Your Grace finally managed to escape that chaos inside." She said, turning her gaze back to the gardens, catching the soft sound of crickets nearby.
Aegon glanced at her, quietly assessing the situation. They were about three meters apart, both leaning against the balcony rail, but he only sighed.
"Gaemon's keeping them distracted for a while so I can clear my head..." He muttered in his usual flat tone, his eyes drifting up to the stars.
"Well..." Serena replied, a faint, mischievous smile curling her lips. "I thought you'd gotten plenty of rest when you made my sister leave her presentation early."
The young king immediately looked her way, his posture stiffening slightly.
"I-I..." He inhaled sharply, a flicker of irritation in his voice, clearly reading her words as offense taken. "After listening to ladies for more than an hour, I needed a break. Unfortunately, the one standing there when I hit my limit was your sister."
He straightened, pulling his arms from the railing and crossing them over his chest, frowning at her.
"So, because my sister's conversation was dull, she had to be the one sent away early?" Serena asked, putting on a perfect actress's offended face, watching as his expression faltered into something like alarm.
"It wasn't that." Aegon said quickly, the words rushing out. "Your sister spoke well, it's just that-"
He didn't get the chance to finish. Serena burst into laughter right in front of him, unable to keep the mask on any longer as she watched him scramble to explain.
