"The doctor has been arranged," informed you Masashi curtly while you were on your way to breakfast together. You were supposed to be Osamu's maid today and while technically, it meant you needn't to fulfill any duties requested from Masashi, the raven head called for you anyway, claiming that since you have joined rooms anyway, you can spare a few seconds for him.
Despite the pleasant notice you just got informed of, you narrowed your eyes into slits while staring at his back as you fell behind him a little. The sassy prince called you in just to tell you he heard you snore even through the wall.
You were hundred per cent sure you did not snore.
His black hair whipped around as he turned his head to the side, glancing at you over his shoulder. He was expecting an answer.
Immediately, you snapped back to the present.
He said the doctor will come to my village after all... "When?" You scolded yourself for letting your voice sound so small, so hopeful and pathetic.
"This afternoon, he'll stop by."
You clenched your hands into fists to prevent them from clapping aloud together and tried to maintain your cool in front of him. "Thank you so much. That's great," you breathed out through suppressed excitement.
When he turned back, staring ahead of him into the long corridor leading to the dining room, you punched the air and let a wide grin win over your face.
There was hope for your mother at last. And while you didn't want to get yourself carried away too much, you couldn't help but feel so hopeful to the point your heart was going to burst that your mother could get treated. Could get healthy again. Healthy and alive.
Because in the corner of your heart, you also knew how poor of a chance she had. Deathframe was a terrible sickness. But on the other hand, your mother had been fighting it ever since you could remember... You knew she was strong.
You believed in her, because that was the only thing you could do. Allowed yourself to do.
You fell into silence again, your shoes clicking against the polished floor. It wasn't an uneasy silence, though, but rather one full of hope. Well, at least from your side.
He was probably as bothered about the health of your mother as he was about the little bird that had just flown by the spacious window.
In other words, he didn't even notice it.
By his stance, his tone when he told you, how he turned back round and proceeded to go on his way without so much as a smile... you were once again harshly reminded what this boy cares about - himself.
Simple as that.
Because even though you managed to fall under his charms a few times when he showed his sweeter, more caring and comforting side, you still couldn't be sure whether that wasn't only a play on his part. A means to make you stay.
And yet your heart skipped a beat when he stopped, looked at you over his shoulder, slowly turning himself around and opened the door to the dining room, waiting for you to enter first. You hadn't even realized you were already there, too preoccupied in your head. His dark, steady gaze pierced you the whole time you were walking past and even after, you felt the two pitch black holes his eyes consisted of never leaving your back, until you were sure there must've been a burnt hole in your clothes and an aggressively red, blistering piece of skin on your back.
But as handsome as he was, as hot and cold at the same time, you couldn't ever fall under his spell again. No matter how hard he'd try to make you believe.
He's simply an arrogant prince too full of himself to have space for others.
The remaining three princes already in the dining room looked delighted upon seeing you.
"Good morning," Michiaki immediately reacted to your arrival, standing up and offering you his hand, placing a kiss atop yours.
The other two royals followed suit, Yuichi's greetings accompanied with a wave of his hand, sending a flutter to your stomach as a thought crossed your mind - perhaps at least one of the princes is sure to care about you. Yu doesn't seem to mind showing more affection towards you.
If this isn't his own game of pretend as well, coming to stab you in your back later, your mind reminded you. Masashi was unexpected, being cold and harsh, the next second seeming to care about your and your family's well-being. He was playing a game, must've been. But what if Yu was doing the same, with the rules dangerously twisted?
You need to watch out more, you reminded yourself. You can't trust them solely because they smile at you like you're their friend. Can't fall under the spell of neither of them.
Only Osamu's spell was yet to find your way under your skin.
"Umo, you too nervous?" Yu's voice cut through your spinning thoughts and snapped you back to reality. Hearing the name, your eyes immediately wandered to the prince in question, with his steel hair now covering his face which he hung low, ears bright pink as he found himself being teased by his brothers. He refused to meet your eyes and you couldn't help but smile slightly at that despite what you had been thinking about just mere seconds ago.
"Y/n doesn't bite, Umo," Yu continued while popping a spoonful into his mouth. Your stomach grumbled at the smell of food that overwhelmed you the moment you sat down at the table, while simultaneously feeling like butterflies erupted there since this was the very precise moment that Osamu, the second youngest, decided to meet your eyes at last.
Stormclouds bore into your soul. You almost saw a lightning flick between you two, heard it crack with electricity.
Yu, oblivious to this, went on rather joyfully, "I mean, you could take her to the library, but she's already seen it. And the gardens, too, but maybe-"
Osamu spoke, cutting his younger brother off. "I can arrange my date myself, thank you." His tone mirrored the storm raging in his eyes, catching you by surprise. You thought him to be the shy one, not one to state such things without a second thought.
You were glad yet to start eating, otherwise you'd surely would've choked on whatever it would be in your mouth after hearing him.
...A date?
It surely only was a figure of speech.
From your side, Masashi scoffed before digging in. Mirroring his action, you served steaming hot food onto your plate as well, opting to eat rather than reply.
The rest of breakfast was eaten in silence, as if the grey haired prince struck everyone speechless with his words. It still managed to go by quickly, your plate emptying all too soon for your liking. You weren't sure whether you were prepared to start the day with Osamu just yet after his words carved something in your mind. But the moment you cleared your plate of the last crumb, he looked up as if on cue.
"Ready to go, Y/n?"
Eyes startled and wide, you were sure you looked like a deer caught in headlights. You nodded your head after giving yourself a second to collect yourself. "Yes."
