"What did you want me to say, Marshall?!" I said into the phone. Whitney's asleep next door and I'm tried not to wake her up.

"I'm just sayin' you should've told me when Andre got shot." He was mad and I'm not really going to say anything about it. It was late and I was tired.

"Okay. Next time one of Hailie's boyfriend's get shot, I'll be the first to alert you." I said and he sighed. I hung up, just because I like turning the tables.

It had been three years after I officially moved on from Marshall and nine years since we divorced. I found Daniel through a dating site in early 2011 and ever since, we've hit it off. To be honest, his family were way more reserved and way more stable than mine. Hayden was a cheerleader at her middle school, played volleyball and never really argues with anyone. Chelsea was a little bit more risqué and did talk back sometimes. But they are heaps better than my daughters. Attitude wise and life wise.

Speaking of my daughters, Hailie was texting me and I went to my texts.

Hailie Jade☺️| Alaina left SEH. Can u pick me up?
Me| Be there soon. Bringing Whit.
Hailie Jade☺️| Okay thanks

I got out of bed and pu on some jeans and an orange sweatshirt. I threw my hair up in a ponytail and grabbed my keys. I couldn't go all the way downtown and leave Whitney home alone so I walked down the hall and pushed the door open softly.

Her hand was wrapped around her phone and her head was smashed into her pillow. She fell asleep ages ago. I almost don't want to wake her. I lightly tap her shoulder and whisper her name. Her eyes flutter open and she groans looking at me.

"I'm going to pick up Hailie and you have to come with me." I said and she groaned. She pushed out of her bed and pulled on a pair of legging and left her pajama shirt on. As for her hair, Whitney pulled it up into a low ponytail.I closed down the house and we got into the car.

Then, we started the lengthy drive all the way out to Saint Ellis Hospital.

I checked in and Whitney fell fast asleep in the front seat of my running car. I walked in the elevator and waited until I got to "Level Two". I stepped out and quickly found Room 201. I knocked before hearing a soft "come in" and I entered.

I took a glance at the infamous Andre. He had stocky, tall African American hair pulled atop his head. His skin was smooth and coffee colored. His eyes were massive and burnt brown and his build was muscular. He was clad in a spotted hospital gown and his arms were toned. Hailie's hands were interlocked with his as they shared earbuds and smiled. She was kneeled down to Andre's level. I must admit, they looked adorable together. Especially since her past boyfriends have been absolute bootyholes.

"Hey Ms. Scott." He said. Andre spoke with Marshall's accent: hard and deep.

"Hello Andre. Please, call me Kim." I said, extending my hand for him to shake and he shook it.

"Hailie, it's time to go home. Whit's downstairs and it's late." I said and she daintily plucked the black earbud from her ears, disconnected it from his phone and wrapped them up.

"I'll see you soon." Andre said, a smile on his face.

"Tomorrow, right?" She half inquired me and half inquired Andre.

"I don't know, Hailie. You and Whit are going over your Dad's while I'm at Daniel's family dinner." She grunted and looked back at Andre.

"It's aight. I'm okay." He said and I almost wanted to leave them here.

She shut off the pale lamp light illuminating Andre's and we were then in the dark. Hailie slowly shut the door and we walked out.

"I can't believe he got shot and Alaina had to drive me." She said. It comes out like a recap and not a judgmental statement. Good sign.

"What about your father?" I asked as we stepped and started descending in the elevator.

"What about him?" Hailie said, messing with her tangled earbud cord.

"Why couldn't you have asked him to pick you up?" I said and she sighs.

"He's "busy"." Hailie said, making quotations around her words using her fingers. Together, we stepped out into the waiting room. She pulled out in frog of me and walked through the automatic sliding doors. The nights chilly and she wrapped her jacket closer to her body.

I navigate her through the full parking lot to my 2014 Mercedes. Whitney's head is resting against the tinted class and Hailie laughed. She pulled the door open to the backseat and got in. I came around and got in the drivers seat and started up the car. We were driving across the bridge, leaving the city area.

"Do you think he'd show up if I wasn't with Andre and this was for like Marjorie'Anne or Ari?" Hailie piped up. I didn't feel like pretending everything's okay with Marshall.

"To be quite honest, Hailie. You know deep down he wouldn't. I almost didn't show up. I have to be completely truthful when I say that I'm not reliable, but Marshall's a lot less reliable. It's always been that way." I said, getting off the highway.

"Really?" She inquired and I replied with a yes.

"Yes, yes yes. He hasn't been doing this since Andre, Hai. You should just stick with me because he's not really ever there for you."

I looked back to see Hailie's head in her hands. I didn't mean to come off this blitchy, but it had to be said. Especially since he's still in love with me and cheating on me with this ugly, fat whore named Catharine Greene.

We pulled into the driveway of our house and I awoke Whit. She was still a little tired and she got out and slammed the door shut. Hailie was silent the entire way inside.

I heard her turn on the shower and take one and I heard Whitney go back into her bedroom to sleep.

This was only Phase One and Phase Two would be coming soon...
