Arianna wasn't sure what she was going to ask when she raised her hand but she was sure it didn't matter. She just needed to plant a seed and it was going to grow. When Arianna was given a microphone all the camera and lights focused on her Louis who was beside her was contemplating moving away or just staying still.
"I would like to know what relationship you have with Jasper. Surely you won't have us believe you will let a stranger lead the company at your side" there was silence for a few seconds as the question circulated. Then the rush continued. Arianna felt chill go down her back and she was certain it didn't have anything to do with the air conditioning.
"You said Jasper grew up with your son, so whose son is he, was he adopted?" A stunt woman asked from the front pushing her mic over her head at Julianna
"If so, what orphanage and why?" A taller man in front of the stunt lady picked up, letting the stunt lady cut in front of him since her height made no difference.
"Where is Travis, What hospital is he receiving treatment?" A man from the far end of the hall with a deep voice boomed over his own mic
"And where is his father?" Arianna had to remind herself that they were referring to Mr. Benson, it was surprising people didn't know about their arranged marriage.
"How is your father doing?" One of Julianna's minions finally spoke up
"Would the recent incident affect the company stock prices, should investors be worried?" Another followed clearly gaining courage. Julianna composed herself as though she had known this would happen. She cleared her throat and spoke into the mic
"My father is receiving treatment at crescent hospital which is one of the best. And as for the stock prices, our investors and stakeholders have nothing to worry about. I, as well as all the employees are putting in more than our best to uphold the standard." The grieving daughter and mother was long gone. "Now if you will excuse me, I have much that needs to be done" with that men in suit escorted her and Jasper out away from the hungry press. Louis grabbed her at the elbow and led her past the crowd to a room. A shut the door and let out a loud sigh of relief.
"I don't even know how to feel about this stupid press release. She was totally annihilated, was that the plan, are we being baited?" Louis slumped into one of the chairs and poured himself a glass of water. Arianna pressed her ears to the door listening closely, she had to make sure her seeds were planted on good soil, she had to make use of this opportunity because they definitely won't get another one like it. The door pulled open and Arianna fell forward but strong arms caught her in time. Arianna recognized the two men as Louis' driver and bodyguard.
"The car is ready sir" the bodyguard announced.
"It's about time. And you are sure there aren't pesky reporters waiting outside?"
"Driven off the troublemakers makers sir"
Arianna followed Louis to his car and this time around she didn't have to ask where they were going.
They sat at the underground dinning. Louis lunged at the liquor immediately his bum hit the chair while Mr. Benson smiled softly as the spy he planted narrated all that had happened at the press conference. Arianna listened keenly in case she hears anything she hadn't noticed before. When he was done, Mr. Benson dismissed him.
"Well, is any of you going to tell me what happened? Arianna said
"I thought you could already guess" Louis commented stretching to get the jug of liquor closer to Arianna after finishing his. Arianna wondered if his bladder was going to be okay.
"It's as you suspect" Mr. Benson explained. "Travis had another episode last night. From what he said he got home and went straight to his room, then later Julianna came saying they needed to talk. He said he got so angry that she could even look him in the eye and before he knew it, he hulled a glass at her."
Arianna considered the story for a while. It seemed natural enough not at all what she was hoping for.
"This isn't enough, Where is Travis?"
"He is upstairs. He has refused to eat or drink saying he wants to be alone"
"Can someone take me to him?" Mr. Benson looked solemnly at Louis who finally lowered the glass from his lips.
"I think it's best to leave him alone" Mr. Benson simply said.
"Do you really think there is something wrong with your son?"
Mr. Benson looked taken aback and shook his head "of course not!"
"Then show me his room"
The cute butler girl from the other day led Arianna's to Travis' door, with a fast curt bow she rushed back down the short hallway. "Could you.." she stoped mid way but didn't turn "can you tell the cook to send some food over?"
"Yes, right away" she chirped and resumed her hurried walk down the hall. Arianna observed her surrounding the walls were decorated with mild portraits, this was definitely the side Travis got his taste from. Arianna banged on the door "it's me, your underpaid therapist"
It took a minute and Arianna heard movement behind the door. There was a click and then silence. Arianna opened the door and stepped in closing it behind her. The room was dark if not for the light from the screen. Searching the walls, she found the light switch and slammed it on. Light flooded the door and Travis dove for cover like a vampire
"Did you really have to?"
"Seeing this mess, I'm glad I did" the cases of the movies she had given him were scattered all around the room along with other of his personal items Arianna recognized. The room was bigger, but still had the same layout as his room at Julianna's. A king sized bed at the corner and two white couched forming a parlor around a coffee table facing the television. Arianna steeped over some and picked up the ones littered on the couch and sat down with a sigh.
"I'm sorry" he said barely audible
"I don't know which job is harder being your caretaker or therapist"
"I think being me is harder" the movie was over but Travis who was watching the screen with somewhat interest like he hadn't noticed.
"Oh please, I need you to tell me everything single thing that happened down to every breath" a soft knock on the door distracted Arianna "but first eat, and get this mess cleaned up. And most importantly can I use your shower? I smell like Julianna's point of view.
