Louis sat facing the door just as Mr. Benson had in her apartment. It was almost nostalgic only based on the fact that Mr. Benson was tall and slim while Louis was plump and average. After settling at the coffee table, he gave Arianna tea leaves to boil which he brought from home as though drinking poor people's tea for a day would kill him.
Arianna brought the tea and settled opposite him wondering how she chose them over Jasper. She missed him and wanted to see him but she had chosen her side, they were nothing but enemies now.
"I don't plan to repeat what has been said or question your decision as I have no time or interest in doing so" he finally said after two sips of the hot tea.
"I also have no interest in discussing unnecessary live events so just tell me what is the situation and what is the plan?"
"I like you!" He said after a dry laugh. Arianna didn't feel the same way. "Our greatest threat is Julianna but I believe she isn't the mastermind. I've known her a long time and although she is mischievous and cunning, she doesn't use the underhanded methods that are at play."
"What exactly is your relationship with Julianna?" They were both Julianna's employees but Arianna could not imagine confidently saying she has known her enough no matter after how many years.
"She was married to my best friend. Even though it was for a little while and on papers it still happened." Arianna didn't pry further considering the fact that the best friend was blown to bits in an explosion not so long.
"What are these underhanded methods you are referring to?"
"When Travis was growing up he was praised for lot of things. He was athletic, smart, good mannered, generous but most of all, he never got angry not even once. Not when he was bullied for being a spoilt mother's boy or when he was asked to quit sports and study more. All these times he would just smile and nod he was almost like a timid child who only did what people asked without a word"
"Are you sure?" Arianna remembered all Travis fits of rage. How Julianna made it sound like something that had been going on for years.
"Someone or something is causing it." Louis completed ignoring her sarcastic question
Arianna thought back hard to find a clue or anything that didn't seem natural but nothing came to mind. Only if she had suspected back then, she would truly have been able to help him.
"And that's not all" Louis continued "you've met her father right, what did you think?"
"That he was the perfect original of Julianna. Smart and cunning despite his age"
"Exactly. But he had been diagnosed with dementia."
"What? That can't be!" Arianna retorted "can you get dementia over night?" She could see where this conversation was headed but shook violently against it.
"Not through natural means you can't"
"But why dementia?"
Louis took a long sip of tea "Think, my tea is getting rather lukewarm"
Arianna fell back into her seat. "Dementia..loss of memory..memory..Oh my GOD!"
"The perfect plan isn't it? Very unnoticeable to prying eyes."
"They are going to make him forget who is the right heir" Arianna was breathless. She had solved heartless cases but this was extreme. To think that Julianna would do that to her own son and father, it was abominable.
"Are you sure your grandmother doesn't want some tea? It's really good." Louis commented. Arianna was so buried in her thoughts she couldn't hear a thing. Arianna wasn't even aware of the fact that Louis gotten off from his chair and made his way to the bathroom door, knocked thrice before getting harassed by her grandmother's sandal the moment the door pulled open. Face reddened on impact he raised his hands in surrender clearly out powered as her grandmother dived to Arianna side.
"Is he the only enemy? Humph not so tough" her grandmother said nose proudly in the air.
"Oh the enemy is tough alright, you will need sandals made of metal to knock them out." He said returning to his seat still massaging his race
"Arianna who is this old man" Arianna finally left her mirage when her grandmother shook her violently.
"Huh, ma?What are doing out of the bathroom? It's dangerous for you to get involved" Arianna lamented shoving her grandmother back towards her temporary shelter.
"It's more dangerous out of my sight. My men have already occupied this whole apartment a little squeeze of this will have a hundred men at your exact location." He threw the tiny remote at my grandmother which she caught clearly still very cautious of him.
"So she is safe as long as she stays here?"
"She can leave if she wishes, the men will trail her wherever she goes but I don't recommend it our enemies are skilled in assassination, what she eats, drinks, wears, there are too many chances I'm sure none of us want to take" Arianna heard her grandmother swallow her fear clearly wondering how someone could be killed by wearing cloths. Arianna could think of several ways it almost looked like the most common way of assassination.
"While you get used to carrying that around, Arianna and I have an appointment to meet." Louis finished rising and adjusting his suit.
"Where are we going?" Arianna didn't like the idea of leaving her grandmother behind.
"Oh just to see an old friend"
"Go. I'll be fine" her grandmother assures clearly perceiving her unease. "He might look like a backstabber but I can tell he can be trusted. Get this over with" her grandmother shoved her at Louis who just smiled not commenting on her remark.
Arianna didn't push it further. She just squeezed her hands and makes for the door after Louis.
"You don't have to worry I'll never betray someone who has decided to fight by my side." Arianna could tell clearly that he wasn't lying.
"Thanks." She simply says as they make their way to his car parked downstairs. She let out a sigh of relief when the evening breeze massages her face. From what she was able to sense and count, there were about fifty men watching her every movement with professional precision. She could trust them.
"So is this friend of yours also a friend of mine?"
"We will find out. I have a feeling you two will get along just fine" he opened the door and gestured for her to go in which she did gratefully.
