A few weeks after the beginning of the new year the day had come. Right before the end of the last school year the exchange company contacted our mama and told her, that they had found an exchange student, that would want to stay at our house for about a year. She was beyond excited.
They soon sent her the eMail address of the student, along with a Skype name and everything you could possibly need to get in contact with a person. We all were curious to get to know him, but she never showed us a picture nor did she say us his name. We knew barely anything about him and mama wanted to keep it a surprise.
Which was really not fair.
We were thrilled for the day, when the student would move into our house and when it had finally come, we kept bombarding mama with questions, but she resisted answering any of them.
Late in the afternoon my dad accidentally dropped the first hint. „Come one, guys", he shouted from downstairs, „we need to go and get ready to meet Oli at the airport!"
Excited I ran down the stairs. „Oli?", I shouted overwhelmed. „So, it's a boy, right?!" My dad slowly realized his mistake, but brushed it off. „You'll see", he said and winked at our mama, that was just coming around the corner. She smiled at me with sparkling eyes and nodded along. „Yeah, you'll see."
After Troye and Sage had come down as well, we eventually got into our big family van and went off to the airport. During the drive, I updated both of them on the news and tried to guess the boys age and hobbies. Which is kinda hard if you've never seen the person and only know his name.
Sage said that he'd probably be a skater boy, whilst Troye bet that he must be a total nerd, because for what other reason would you join an exchange program? I seriously had no idea what to expect – I hoped for someone cool, that I could befriend easily, but maybe he was really introverted and shy or a complete macho. I would get along with him, no matter what or at least I really hoped so.
When we arrived at the airport, mama was the first one that made her way out of the car and into the huge building. Olis flight was about to arrive every second and she didn't want to be late – partly for the exchange student not to feel lost, partly because she loved turning up in time.
My siblings and I went with our dad to wait near the entrance, whilst she rushed off into the crowd, to find our guest. After a few minutes of waiting, the first fans noticed us and came over to ask for autographs and pictures. Sage and dad just scrolled their eyes, knowing that there was no escape, whilst Troye and I took our time to talk to every single one of them.
Eventually, they were all gone and we saw our mama coming back to us, with a huge backpack on her bag and a big smile on her face. The only problem was: I couldn't spot Oli, no matter how hard I tried. Every single guy in the universe seemed to walk in a completely different direction than my mama and that confused me a lot. Had he gone lost already or was he hiding from us? But why would he?
I turned around to face my siblings, but they looked as perplexed as I. „Dad", I slowly asked him, „where's Oli? Has he gone lost or something?"
He just laughed at me, before he walked towards my mama and greeted someone that was behind her. Was he that small, that we couldn't spot him in the crowd? They came closer and it hit me like a punch. Now I knew, why we didn't saw the exchange student earlier. Because Oli was a girl.
My first impression was, that she was really small – about 5 ft if not less. It looked hilarious in comparison to my dad, but as I was even taller than him – as well as Troye – our whole group would make a funny bunch of people. Her eyes seemed light, but not blue and where tiny through the lack of sleep she probably had. Her figure was not well-built if you could even call it a figure and her feet were as tiny as the rest of her body. One thing I didn't notice about her first was her really long hair. It went down to her knees and though everyone says, that long hair is impressive, I wondered if hers wasn't a bit too long.
